About

Hi! My name is Brisa and I am a drummer/percussionist who studied Music Education at Concordia University Irvine and am currently getting my Master's Degree in Music Performance at Azusa Pacific University. I grew up surrounded by a musical family and played in many ensembles, like jazz, orchestra, percussion, and have even been performing in church for over 12 years. Throughout my years, I have been selected to be recognized as an accomplished percussion by several school/festival institutions. My most notable awards have been receiving Percussionist of the Year (7 times), Maestro Award 2014 (5 out of 2,000 students receive a recongintion of high end performance selected by Dr. Whitmore from UCLA). I have also participated in several honor bands for percussion performance, and played in National Religious Conferences for drum set. I also have volunteered to teach in public schools in my area, as well as have been teaching privately with people from my community. I hope to help edify to the fullest potential young and incoming percussionists that would love to further develop their craft, or simply enjoy learning more about drums!

Frequently asked questions

I would first like to ask what the goal of the student is. Every person has a different interest in what they have interested to learn- so I want to ensure that I am aware of these motives. Regardless if the student wants to learn for fun, or would like to pursue professionally, one of the most crucial topics are things like proper technique and form.

I have studied music at Concordia University Irvine and am currently getting my master's degree in percussion performance at Azusa Pacific University. During my time in college, I have been taking private lessons with professionals in the field and have been involved in all types of music ensembles to expand my knowledge about drumming.
I started teaching when I was first assigned Drumline Captain in high school. I would teach in groups, and privately give lessons to my peers. Ever since, I have always been teaching young kids as a side business, as I currently work at an Music Academy in Monrovia.
