Geoff F. says, "Coach Deep did an excellent job teaching my 11 now 12 year son fundamental football skills. He focused on specific football routines - squats, high knees, lunges, etc.. My sons main focus was wide receiver. Coach performed specific hand eye coordination, catching, route running drills. Over a year of training my son went from having a hard time catching a football to catching almost anything thrown his way greatly increasing his confidence. I look forward to using him again in the near future." Read more

DS says, "To whom it may concern: My daughter has been taking group tennis lessons and private hitting sessions with Todd Granius for the last four years. He has been instrumental in helping her to reach the level that she needed to be at to play in varsity at her very competitive high school. Todd always made sure that my daughter was enjoying the game, while also improving. He makes clear and effective instruction through verbal feedback and physical demonstration. There is always plenty of positive reinforcement. Todd has also been extremely helpful in ensuring that my daughter has the proper equipment. He has been instrumental in helping my daughter find the correct racquet, keeping it strung with the proper strings, and helping her recover through a variety of minor impairments that happened early on. Todd’s love of the game really resonates with the students who have the opportunity to work with him. " Read more

Your Tennis Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do tennis lessons cost?

On average, tennis lessons cost $60 to $150 per hour or $200 to $500 for five 1-hour lessons. The cost to hire a tennis instructor depends on their experience level and the session length. Casual or beginner students may not need an instructor with a lot of experience, while students who want to play at a professional level will have to pay more for an experienced teacher. Most tennis lessons are 30 to 60 minutes long.

How many tennis lessons do I need?

How many tennis lessons you need depends on your experience level and why you're taking lessons. Casual players may only need 5 to 10 lessons total. Competitive players may need 50 to 100 lessons over the course of a year, or about 1 to 2 lessons per week.

Are tennis lessons worth it?

Tennis lessons are worth it whether you're a beginner or a professional for the following reasons:

  • They're fun and educational.
  • Almost anyone can improve their game by taking them.
  • They provide heart-healthy exercise.
  • They improve hand-eye coordination.
  • They help you master a skill that you will continue to enjoy for the rest of your life.

In order for beginners to enjoy tennis and feel proficient, they first have to master the basic techniques like serving and backhand strokes. More experienced players may benefit from learning advanced techniques and improve their enjoyment of the game. One-on-one instruction allows players to concentrate on their unique strengths and weaknesses and improve their skills.

What age do you start tennis lessons?

The best age to start tennis lessons for kids is between 5 to 10 years old, or when they are able to pay attention and follow instructions for 30 minutes or more. Kids who have been in other sports before typically do well, even at a young age. Adults can start tennis lessons at any age.

What do I wear to a tennis lesson?

Since you will be moving your arms and running during a tennis lesson, wear comfortable clothing or active wear. Public courts and parks do not require a dress code, but tennis clubs and country clubs typically require the following attire:

  • Tennis shoes or sneakers with non-marking soles
  • Polo shirts or tank top
  • Shorts or a skirt
  • A hat or visor

What are the different types of tennis lessons?

There are three different types of tennis lessons, each with different advantages:

  • Group lessons are best for beginners. Learning in a group also helps students learn from each other and become familiar with game play, rules, and techniques.
  • One-on-one lessons are helpful for more advanced students. Once students master the basics, they may want to take private lessons, which are the best way to strengthen skills and set personal goals.
  • Specialized lessons are great for people with special needs. These classes adapt lessons appropriately for groups or individuals with special needs.

How do I choose a tennis instructor?

Start by searching our list of tennis instructors, then:

  • Get at least three free estimates from tennis instructors to compare.
  • Examine reviews from previous or current students on Lessons and Google.
  • Choose an experienced, friendly instructor.
  • Follow a payment schedule instead of making large cash payments up front.

What questions should I ask tennis instructors?

To find the best tennis instructor near you, ask the following questions:

  • How long have you been playing tennis? Have you played professionally?
  • Do you have any openings? If not, how far in advance are you booked?
  • Would you recommend group or private lessons for me?
  • Do you offer discounts for referrals or couples?
  • Will you give me an estimate for lessons in writing?

Coach Eric is fantastic! The only review you'll need. I just started working with him, and within a few lessons, I was able to get the hang of it. Despite having no prior experience, he guided me through the ins and outs of tennis, including strategies and techniques. He really caters to my style and knows when to push me to improve. I’ve enjoyed the energy he brings to our sessions, and I’m looking forward to continuing to work with him whenever I have the time. So please don't hesitate to schedule a lesson. Reach out to him today and have yourself an amazing 👏 time on the court. Thank me later. 🎾

Coach Deep did a great job of working with my 9 year old on QB skills as well as general fitness training and good athlete discipline and habits. His correction to my son’s deep pass throwing mechanics definitely made a noticeable difference this season for our team resulting in more touchdowns and less interceptions. He has and teaches a great work ethic that goes beyond just the sport.

I had the privilege of meeting and training with Mark (a bit before Method Tennis was born) when I was 16 years old and all the way through college. What stands out to me over the years isn't the repetition of groundstrokes, the footwork or the tireless instruction on the fundamentals of tennis. Those lessons were all first class and gave me the tools needed for a lifetime in the sport. What really stands out to me over the years is the devotion and respect that Mark gives to his students as individuals. At times it all just feels like tennis... But then there are days when you realize the lessons you've learned are much more valuable and meaningful than that. I would never hesitate to recommend Method Tennis and the programs they offer. I still use the lessons and skills they taught in my career as a Sports Medicine Physical Therapist today.
