I have been teaching piano at my studio in Vallejo since 1990 (and before that in San Francisco). I hold Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance from San Francisco State University, and am president of the Solano County branch of the Music Teachers' Association of California. I have extensive experience as piano soloist and accompanist, as church organist, and in musical theater. Stephen's Piano Studio, established in 2001, is located in Santa Rosa, California and caters to the surrounding areas. This piano teaching studio, run by a seasoned educator since 2001, uses the innovative Australian-developed "Simply Music" method. This unique approach is playing-based, covering a multitude of styles including blues, classical, and contemporary, and introduces music reading at a later stage. Lessons are highly interactive, engaging, and fun, and are offered both in-person and remotely via Zoom. I have been playing fiddle and mandolin for over 50 years. I started violin lessons when I was in school, and began studying classical music. I soon discovered other styles of music, as well, and took a little detour from the classical world into the world of Bluegrass music and folk music. That led me to a professional career in Bluegrass and Country music, and also lead me to explore many other styles of music, including jazz and swing, Cajun and Zydeco music, Italian mandolin music, Klezmer music, and more.
