Welcome to Take Root Piano! I have been at the piano for over 17 years and have taught for 4 years. I love helping students discover how fun and rewarding music can be. Piano has become a huge light in my life, and I’ve found that learning and practicing a skill like this can spill over and make every part of life better. Taking Root is all about building a strong foundation. Just like a tree, music grows best when it has deep, steady roots — and that’s exactly what I want for my students: skills and confidence that last a lifetime. In lessons, I put a big emphasis on sight-reading and accompanying (whether for yourself or others). These sk

Hi, I have been studying and performing music since I was 5 years old, starting accordion and voice lessons. When I was 6 years old, I performed on the King Norman television show on CBS, and the Moose Lodge playing accordion and singing Teddy Bear by Elvis Presley. Fast forward to High School, where I took up the drums and played with the "Ambassadors" band. I was informally voted the best garage band drummer of all the bands in Daly City. At 19 years old, I took up guitar and played in several successful bands including my bands called Ball Lightning from 1999-2005, the MotorVators from 2011-2014 and I currently manage and perform regular

Tim K. says, "We met Nick at a American Bach Soloist concert months ago. I overheard him talking about how he teaches piano. I asked him if we could talk in the lobby after the performance. We had a nice talk and I explained to him that my partner is in the early stages of Alzheimers and that he used to play the piano. Nick was very graceful and said he would love to make music with him. I also tossed in the idea and asked Nick could come to our house and give him the lessons there. Nick did not hesitate to say yes. Nick has been so patient and kind and you can tell he really loves what he does. My partner doesn’t remember a lot of things. But he knows that Fridays are his piano lessons. I can’t say enough kind things abut Nick. I think that anyone who would engage him will be a better person for it!" Read more

How much do classical piano lessons cost?

Classical piano lessons cost $40 to $80 hourly on average. Piano lesson packages cost $150 to $360 per month for weekly private lessons in-home or at a studio. Musicians recommend in-person lessons for classical piano playing so that the teacher can correct your hand positions better.

What are classical piano lessons?

Classical piano lessons teach you the traditional playing style of music written by composers like Mozart and Beethoven. You'll also learn important techniques and how to read sheet music of classical arrangements.

How long must you take piano lessons to play classical?

You must take piano lessons for 1 to 2 years with consistent practice to play simple classical pieces. Some people can make faster progress if they practice more often or have prior musical experience.

How long are classical piano lessons?

Classical piano lessons are 30 to 60 minutes long on average. The amount of time varies according to the teacher's style and the abilities of the student.

How do I find the best classical piano lessons near me?

Find classical piano lessons from private instructors by looking through the listings here on the Lessons website. Local music schools sometimes offer virtual lessons online as well.

Prior to hiring a local piano instructor, you should always:

  • Secure a minimum of 3 lesson cost estimates to get a clear comparison.
  • Read their ratings on sites such as Lessons and Google.
  • Talk to students on their references list.
  • Collect a written agreement and a lesson timeline before lessons begin.
  • Wait until after your preliminary sessions to start pre-booking for a month of lessons.

What question do I ask when choosing classical piano lessons?

When you're searching for a piano teacher, be sure to ask these questions:

  • How many years have you been teaching piano?
  • What is your formal music education background?
  • Which classical music composers are your favorites?
  • What is the typical age range of your students?
  • Do you offer a trial lesson, either for free or at a discounted rate?
  • If I don't have a piano, what type of keyboard should I get for practicing?
  • How much practice should I be doing outside of our lessons?
  • What textbooks do I need, and what's their cost?
  • Do you give assignments or pieces to memorize after each lesson?
  • Can you adapt your teaching style based on the individual student's needs?
  • What should I bring with me to our lessons?
  • How many different piano genres and styles can you teach?
  • Can I get a written copy of our agreement and the payment terms?
  • What is your policy for cancelling a lesson?
  • Will I be able to choose some of my own favorite songs to learn?

Ken is a very experienced musician and performer and really teaches what it’s all about, he uses his own material and everything you do has a specific purpose. And because Ken teaches independently of some book, or guide he can always adjust his lessons to what you need or are struggling.
