I’ve been teaching Piano and Voice for 38 years. I teach from the John Thompson piano method. I also teach Theory and supplement the method book with classical and popular pieces that my students are interested in learning. For Voice, I teach breathing techniques and vocal exercises to begin the lesson then we work on pieces that interest the student from Italian Arias to Broadway show tunes or popular pieces. We have a recital every year in June. I teach all ages from 5 to 95!! The lesson is 1/2 hour once a week. I do offer a discount for a 1 hour lesson....

Anna B. says, "ModernTone Studios is a godsend! I was looking to get back into music, and I was so happy to find a one-stop shop that offers lessons in guitar, vocals, and drums. I've taken a couple of singing lessons from Stella and one guitar lesson from Jacob. The teachers here are top-notch and are clearly knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. In just two lessons, Stella has taught me a lot about proper singing technique and has even helped me diagnose some bad habits that were holding me back. It's also just fun and a great creative outlet to be able to belt out a song as loud as you want. :) Jacob is an incredible teacher. Just listening to him speak, you can tell that he has a huge amount of knowledge about guitar and a lot of experience conveying it to students. I learned a lot in our first lesson, and Jacob was even able to explain the art of improvising in a refreshing and evocative way. He also assigns effective and motivating homework. Before visiting ModernTone Studios, I had spent a long time spinning my wheels, trying to improve my musicianship on my own and never getting very far. After my lessons with Stella and Jacob, I feel inspired and hopeful that with the right help and practice, I could improve my skills and express myself through music in the way I've always wanted to." I tailor lessons to students' unique learning styles and interests. Depending on student's interests I can teach a combination of sight reading, harmony, ear training, technique, and songwriting. Hello there! I have been playing music since I could barely play some twangy notes on my first guitar in 5th grade. Fast forward to present day and I have been fortunate to not just stop at the guitar but learn bass, piano (didn't start until age 21), ukulele, and audio production/recording along the way. Learning all these different instruments and skills has taught me that there's no one singular way to learn an instrument and I like to tailor lessons to the specific interests of each student, meeting them at their given skill level and then apply the fundamentals according to the song/style they're learning. I love to just chat about music

How do I find the best classical piano lessons near me?

Find classical piano lessons from private instructors by looking through the listings here on the Lessons website. Local music schools sometimes offer virtual lessons online as well.

Prior to hiring a local piano instructor, you should always:

  • Read their ratings on sites such as Lessons and Google.
  • Talk to students on their references list.
  • Collect a written agreement and a lesson timeline before lessons begin.

What question do I ask when choosing classical piano lessons?

When you're searching for a piano teacher, be sure to ask these questions:

  • How many years have you been teaching piano?
  • What is your formal music education background?
  • Which classical music composers are your favorites?
  • What is the typical age range of your students?
  • Do you offer a trial lesson, either for free or at a discounted rate?
  • If I don't have a piano, what type of keyboard should I get for practicing?
  • How much practice should I be doing outside of our lessons?
  • What textbooks do I need, and what's their cost?
  • Do you give assignments or pieces to memorize after each lesson?
  • Can you adapt your teaching style based on the individual student's needs?
  • What should I bring with me to our lessons?
  • How many different piano genres and styles can you teach?
