Livit Immersion Center
About
Over 15 years of experience teaching Spanish to people from all over the world. We personalize all of the classes and tailor the material to each student's interests, abilities and goals.
We also have a school in Puebla, Mexico for a total cultural and Spanish language immersion program.
We love being able to help people learn Spanish. Everyone is learning for a different reason and we like that we can help them connect to other people in the Spanish language for professional development, for travel, for family, and especially for fun. We enjoy teaching not only the Spanish language, but also about the rich culture and history of Mexico and Latin America, which we include in the course materials.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start off with an initial interview for a level assessment and talk with the student a little to find out his/her interests, goals, needs, and ability for learning the Spanish language. Then we pick a schedule and send written work to the student to go over before the class. At the scheduled time, we connect with the student via phone, Skype, Zoom, Facetime or another application for a full 60-minute conversational lesson to practice MUCHO español.

We have over 15 years of expreience (since 2004) teaching Spanish as a foreign language to adults from all over the world.

How did you get started teaching?
Our backgrounds are in linguistics, teaching, and business. In 2002 Scott moved to Puebla, Mexico to teach English and volunteer. He met and later married, Maru, a native of Puebla (a "poblana").
Together they started the Livit Immersion Center teaching Spanish to foreigners online starting in 2004 and in a total cultural and Spanish language immersion program starting in 2005.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with adults from young to old, from all over the world, who have ranged from complete beginner all the way up to very advanced.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We had the opportunity to work with an aspiring Spanish learner who was searching for an opportunity to share his professional skills (neuropathology) with the world. He has seen a lot and wanted others to be able to benefit from his experience. He sought out conferences in various parts of the world and quickly realized that in English he was reaching the same small group of people. If he could speak in Spanish in conferences, he could start reaching new audiences. He did just that, and after several years, he's spoken at conferences in Spain, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Argentina, and most recently, Chile. He told us a at his conference in Chile, it was the best one yet. He was able to present fluidly and he made lots of new friends and contacts within his profession. We feel as proud as parents when we hear these stories of success.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who offers the type of class that you are looking for. Does the teacher have lots of experience teaching all levels, all abilities, are the classes fun and dynamic, can the teacher explain things clearly?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why are you learning Spanish? What's your motivation? (having a motivation will keep you going). How much time do you have time to learn and practice Spanish between classes? Do you have a place to practice Spanish outside of classes? (this will help keep your Spanish alive and give you opportunities to use Spanish to connect with others. Having a friend or someone else to practice with, will keep you motivated and having fun with Spanish). Are you planning to travel to a Spanish speaking country to use Spanish?
