Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, we have a one on one meeting to determine needs and if I can help the student. Second, we would review the material the students have access to or their classroom teacher provided. I would assess their level and make a plan to go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Spanish teacher. I have taught in the classroom as well as conducted one on one tutoring.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing is typically $25-$40 per hour depending on the level of the student and the goals set for the plan we arranged at the first meeting.
How did you get started teaching?
I majored in Education in college, went right into a master's program and began teaching fresh out of the program. I always loved Spanish and helping others so the career seemed fit for me.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with elementary age to adult students. I have taught native speakers to beginning learners and students with learning disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
At my school I am the Spanish Honor Society Advisor and we held a Latin Night celebration to teach others about Hispanic culture, music and food.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Learning a language is 80% self-motivation. I am here to help you and teach you tricks to remember the material but when it comes down to it the student needs to take the reigns and find techniques that work best for him/her.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should provide a scenario and ask how the teacher would handle explaining a concept or something to the student to get a feel for their style. They should also ask about use of technology and additional resources.
