Robert S. says, "Best 30-minute lesson with Bob Wallace in my 18 years of taking golf instruction.
Having trouble topping the ball with hybrids. Bob broke a tee in half, buried most of it in the grass, and said, “Hit through the tee to knock it out of the turf. That will bring club head down to ground level.” With a ball replacing tee, Bob said, “Pretend half tee is still there. Fool the brain. Hit through imaginary tee. The ball just gets in the way.” And topping started to go away.
Having trouble with slice. Bob adjusted my grip so right hand is turned more to the left when gripping club. He said I should see glove seam pointing to left shoulder. He also said I should see the glove logo. (I’m left handed.) Vee with thumb formed should also point to left shoulder. Bob said, “It will feel awkward at first.” But slice started to go away
We speeded up swing tempo in a previous lesson. But Bob noticed I was not following through enough. He said my chest should be pointing 45 degrees past half way through follow through. Over my right shoulder. I was stopping follow through with chest pointing forward.
I played the next day, asking my partners to be patient with new things I had learned. They noticed less topping, less slice and more distance. What more could a student want?
