Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I offer you a brief FREE demo lesson remotely via Zoom to assess your level and goals.
Then I create a lesson plan to achieve them. I provide the student with all materials, including audio files and video activities to work on.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Doctoral Degree in Spanish Language and Literature. I also hold a Master's Degree in Education and another Master's Degree in Latin American Studies.
I have a double Major in Business Administration and English Studies.
I have been teaching adults and high school students since 1997 and college students for over 18 years. All in all, I have taught for over 20 years and work with a team of native Spanish speakers and professionals with extensive teaching experience. We work in a team, where we help students achieve their goals. I'll match you with the best tutor to get to your goals.
What is most important, no matter how many years I have been teaching and how high my accreditations are, I enjoy teaching new students as if it were my first day!!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My lessons start at $45. I offer different types of packages, from just 10 lessons, 20 or up to 40. In the FREE demo lesson, I evaluate your current level in the 4 skills of the language and we both create a plan for you to achieve your goals.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching Spanish in Ireland when I was 18 years old and since then I have been teaching Spanish to high school and college students, as well as hundreds of professionals and retired people.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all kinds of students, from beginners to advanced professional speakers and from very diverse backgrounds and all walks of life.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My most recent project is a course I taught a student who wanted to connect with her family. She had a Hispanic background but never learned to speak. After a few months of hard work, she can hold a conversation and now she is doing a business course in Spanish to communicate with her clients. This is one of the hundreds of students I had, sharing great experiences while learning Spanish. I am proud of all the progress they’ve made!!!!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise the student to get knowledgeable about what kind of instructor he or she is interested in working with. Just being native speakers does not make us good teachers. In my case, I decided to pursue a Doctoral Degree in Spanish Language and Culture to be able to teach with the highest qualification and combine it with over 20 years of experience.
The main advice I would give is to make sure what type of professional he/she selects. If the price is your only factor, I may not be working with you, but if quality and results are what matters to you, then we can be the perfect team!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
First, think of your goals, how much time are you willing to put on your learning journey and when would you like to start.
