About this pro

My goal is to create the best experience for my students when they are in class. To do so, I plan every lesson ahead of time, I use Google Docs where I share a page with each student and I update it with new material during and after every lesson. Another important part of each lesson is to use Spanish in class. I talk in Spanish and my students answer in Spanish.

What I like about my job as a tutor is the possibility to teach my students a new skill that will help them find greater opportunities at work; greater possibilities to meet new interesting people from other cultures and a greater chance of becoming truly bilingual!!

It has been a wonderful experience working with Jeannette. Her classes are tailor made for my individual needs and she always tries to incorporate material that interests me. She structures the discussions to suit my level and is always keen to provide everyday examples of word usage and context. At the end of each class she provides a list of new words that were used during that class. This allows for effective revision. She is always on time. I enjo the classes andalwaylookedforward to the next one.

Jeannette was always on time, and very professional.

Jeanette has an enthusiastic and likable personality, combined with sound knowledge of teaching skills. 99% of our class discussion was in Spanish which I loved - only resorting to English when needed. Her experience in using on line teaching techniques makes it as good as having the lesson in person.

Jeannette is a very dedicated teacher whose preparation for our lessons are incredible. I am very happy and satisfied with our lessons. I have only been studying with her for a few months (and, to be honest, although I don’t have much time to practice enough to make it even better) I am able to understand Spanish much better than I expected for myself before we started studying together.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When I work with a new student, I use vocabulary in Spanish that is easily associated with terms in English. More than half of all English words are derived from Latin, which means, there is an important relationship between Spanish and English vocabulary. I start from this point and introduce new context and vocabulary as the class progresses.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have always loved languages, that is why I got a degree in French and English from the University Mayor de Cundinamarca in Bogotá Colombia. I also studied at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I majored in Psychology and French culture. I have experienced first hand what it is to learn a second and third language.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My fee reflects my experience and training and my commitment to help my students get the most out of their investment. I am happy to offer a discount for multiple sessions. I teach online and I have students in various states. I also travel to my students' locations or meet them halfway in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching little kids in my early 20's when I was in college. Teaching helps me feel more comfortable about myself because it is a way of meeting new people. I enjoy connecting with my students through conversations in Spanish.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Try to make sure the instructor you choose to work with understands why you want to learn the language and how you learn better. Don't forget to have fun learning and practicing your Spanish.
