About this pro

Hi, I'm Jeannette and I am a certified Spanish teacher, having completed a four year degree in elementary education and languages. I have 12+ years of professional practice in private schools, 4 years of private instruction and I am a native Spanish speaker. I have taught students of all backgrounds and abilities. My students allow me to continue learning by asking all sorts of questions which I welcome!!

I love the opportunity to meet people from all backgrounds and I specially love when my students progress from not knowing anything to being able to converse in Spanish.

Learning Spanish on your own can be useful when you are starting with the language but it gets to a point where you need to talk with an experienced teacher who will give you a clear lesson plan and will keep you motivated to learn more. We will have a brief conversation during our first session so that I may get to know you a little and understand your needs. From there, I will guide you through a practice that suits your level, and challenge you if you're up for it! As we go with the class, I will provide a lesson plan and explain any grammar issues until you fully comprehend. Then, it will come the speaking portion which is the best part!

Jeannette was always on time, and very professional.

Jeanette has an enthusiastic and likable personality, combined with sound knowledge of teaching skills. 99% of our class discussion was in Spanish which I loved - only resorting to English when needed. Her experience in using on line teaching techniques makes it as good as having the lesson in person.

Jeannette is a very dedicated teacher whose preparation for our lessons are incredible. I am very happy and satisfied with our lessons. I have only been studying with her for a few months (and, to be honest, although I don’t have much time to practice enough to make it even better) I am able to understand Spanish much better than I expected for myself before we started studying together.

I have been taking classes with Jeannette on a weekly basis for over 6 months and have found them very useful. During that period I have made good progress and much of that is thanks to Jeannette.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

This is the process I follow with my intermediate-advanced students: In class time, I provide a placement test that will help me determine the student's level. This test will give me an approximate measure of the student's reading and writing abilities. A conversation will follow to find out the student's speaking skills. I will also make sure I understand the student's motivation and goals for learning the language. With this information in mind, I will plan my lessons.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Degree in Education, French and English from the University Mayor de Cundinamarca in Bogotá Colombia. Bachelor of Arts, major in Psychology from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. Minor in French.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My fee reflects my experience and training and my commitment to help my students get the most out of their investment. I am happy to offer a discount for multiple sessions. I teach online and I have students in various states. I also travel to my students' locations or meet them halfway in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching little kids in my early 20's when I was in college. Teaching helps me feel more comfortable about myself because it is a way of meeting new people. I enjoy connecting with my students and working with them to improve their Spanish.
