About

I was born and raised in Montréal, QC, Canada, where I grew up in a multilingual environment, speaking Spanish, French & English. I am fluent in Spanish, and growing up with close friends from different Latin American countries, I developed an understanding and love for several cultures including the Peruvian, Dominican, Cuban, and many more. I have also spent time in Spain, as well as several Latin American countries (Dominican Republic, Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia), where I developed an even greater love for not just Spanish, but also the differences in cultures to prepare me to be an ideal tutor for students interested in different types of dialects, speaking patterns, and more.

I have a bachelor's degree in Linguistics & Translation. The study of Linguistics has helped deepen my understanding of phonetics, phonology, semantics, syntax and more --all important components to properly teach Spanish.

I am passionate about the Spanish language and the cultures that surround it. Nothing makes me happier than passing along this same passion to my students, and watching them fall in love with the language I love.

I have worked with Sara for over 2 years. I started out only knowing how to count to ten! I can now carry on full conversations and read in Spanish. She has exceeded all of my expectations in learning a new language. Sara understands this is an individual process and has always helped me to stay encouraged through the learning curve. I am a very busy, full time working mom, with the dream of Spanish fluency. While I know many of her students are fluent in a very short amount of time, I have always appreciated Saras patience with my learning pace. She continues to cater lessons to meet my personal needs and keep this goal achievable with the time I have available to dedicate to the process. She gives the balance of letting this fit into my life, while also providing accountability so that I continue moving forward. She is incredibly professional and shows up prepared, organized, on time, and with enthusiasm to teach the language. She is resourceful; always providing learning tips, books, quality printable material, links to shows and videos and extra activities I can do on my own. I love how her teaching layers and builds upon the previous lesson. Anyone, at any age, or place in life can learn from Saras teaching style. 5 stars for the value received!! I will continue learning and practicing conversations alongside her for years to come.

Sara has been an excellent Spanish teacher for me, my husband, our God daughter and many friends this past year. She works with students at every level and is able to quickly and clearly identify your Spanish level and needs. She is full of resources and explanations for why the language functions in the way it does. Shes able to think on her feet and explain in just the right way, why the grammar structure have various rules and how they apply in different Spanish speaking countries. She is a joy to speak with each week and has helped me tremendously in my progress of speaking, listening, reading and writing Spanish. Without her, I do not believe I would be as confident as I am now. She has taken my Spanish to a new level and knows me as a learner individually. Her targeted instruction is just what I needed. I highly recommend her to anyone wanting to improve their Spanish in a systemic and thorough way but with delight, grace and positive energy learning environment. Sara is the best!

Sara is an amazing Spanish teacher! She meets you right where you are at in your Spanish learning and helps you improve from there. She gives a variety of different homework and activities from worksheets to podcasts to conversation topics. She’s makes a lot of her own material but also uses many other resources like Quizlet and Doulingo to supplement her lessons. It keeps the work fun, engaging, and useful! She’s very encouraging, flexible, and understanding. She really treats you like a friend and responds very quickly to any email you send her, regardless of the subject of the email. I recommend her to anyone looking to improve their Spanish from beginners to more advanced Spanish speakers.

Frequently asked questions

When I start lessons with a new student, we always discuss about their current Spanish level, their learning goals and their prefered learning style and based on that, I create custom-made lessons that will meet the student's needs.

Growing up in a multicultural environnement, I was always very curious about different languages and cultures, so I knew from a really young age that I would want to work in a field related to languages. I started out doing interpretation and translation from Spanish to French or English at my church and I really enjoyed it and later I studied Linguistics and Translation which really helped me understand Spanish better. When I moved to the United States, it was clear to me that teaching Spanish was what I had to do, so I started to work as a private tutor and I could´nt ask for a better job, I absolutely love what I do.

I work with a variety of students such as those who only want to learn conversational Spanish to travel to Latin American countries and those who see it as opportunity to advance profesionally. Some of my current students also just want to learn Spanish to better communicate with family and friends. I have worked with students in different age groups. Whether it's an 18-year-old who is about to embark on a trip to a favorite South American country, or a 40-year-old who sees Spanish as an opportunity to be more impactful at his work place, my tutoring services cater to many.
