Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In my teaching, I incorporate all the elements of my education so that my students have the benefit of learning much more than only flute technique. Developing a person into a good flutist means that he or she must understand how critical posture and breathing are to the production of flute sound. Also, a student must learn to practice with efficiency because it effects playing results in the short term and determines how well and how quickly a student will improve in the long term. The benefit to you as my student, is that I will pass on to you all that I know, enabling you to learn and improve quickly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As the Principal Flutist of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, a member of the Spring Wind Quintet of Chamber Music Hawaii and as a flute instructor at many institutions on the Islands, I have been a part of Hawaii's musical community since 1990. Since that time, I have taken part in thousands of concerts as an orchestral musician, chamber musician and soloist in Hawaii, Mainland United States and in Europe. I have served as a clinician both at home, overseas and with the US Military. I have continued my education, studying not only with some of the world's greatest flutists, but also with the world's best-known masters of posture, breathing and practice techniques.
