Are you looking for regular? Or are you looking for awesome? If it’s the latter, then you belong at Altered Stage. I found this glorious place through a Google search, and man - am I happy that I did. As a recreational guitar player with a baseline understanding of how to play, I was looking for a comfortable place to take my playing to the next level. I never imagined that I could engage in top notch music instruction, and also a community of likeminded recreational musicians who couldn’t have been more welcoming and supportive. The icing on the cake for me is the monthly gig. It’s the perfect balance of accountability and fun to keep my musical development moving at my pace while expanding my social circle with genuine people who I can now call friends. I know there are a ton of ways to learn how to play an instrument - I just can’t understand why anyone would do it outside of Altered Stage.

I was musically naive when I started with Jack. As a former baseball coach for over 20 years I noticed that Jack was doing what I learned to do; he had to figure it all out for himself and did a lot of thinking about every aspect of music and guitar playing. Then he applied the same principles to teaching it. He has an explanation for everything he teaches. How he made the discovery and why we do things a certain way. Jack's knowledge of music and his experience teaching and performing and his history with so many other top notch performers in incredible. I know that he tailors his approach to each of us, the same way that I learned to do it on the baseball field. Every time I learn something new it comes along with the awareness that there is so much more to music; there isn't enough time to learn it all in one lifetime. We have become friends as well. I have been with Jack for over 15 years now and the lessons are a part of my life now. I couldn't imagine a better teacher than Jack. Jack is our Maestro.

I hired Robert to teach me guitar and for a vocal lesson. I'm learning acting as well to prepare for an upcoming musical theatre production where i have to sing and play guitar. I was so pleased and happy that Robert was a personable knowledgeable professional teacher. He got right to work with me and we spent the whole time working on my craft. I had a few lessons to get me ready for the show I highly recommended him.
