  • For ongoing classes, you'll pay $170 to $315 per month with the prepaid discount.
  • Online lessons cost anywhere from $35 to $55 per hour and let you jam with a teacher from the comfort of your own home.

Are electric guitar lessons worth it?

Electric guitar lessons are worth it if you want to learn more at a faster pace, develop a better technique, and get customized instructions to improve your style. Only an experienced electric guitar player can understand how to help you improve, so don't settle for a general guitar instructor.

What age is good to start electric guitar lessons?

A good age for kids to start electric guitar lessons is from 6 to 10 years old. Another indication they're ready to learn is whenever they're physically able to hold the guitar and have the hand strength to press the strings.

Adults of all ages can also start electric guitar lessons at any time. With the right guidance and consistent practice, anyone can master the electric guitar.

How many lessons does it take to learn electric guitar?

The number of lessons it takes you to learn electric guitar depends on your goals and how much time you dedicate to practicing those epic solos. Playing a simple tune might take 2 to 6 months of weekly classes.

If you're aiming to rock out like a pro, expect a time investment of 4 to 10 years.

Are acoustic and electric guitar lessons the same?

Acoustic and electric guitar lessons aren't the same because these are two entirely different instruments with unique equipment features.

Learning to play electric guitar requires:

  • Knowing how to use an amplifier and pedals that create sound effects
  • Understanding how to adjust the speaker connection
  • Knowledge of genres like rock, metal, blues, and jazz
  • Special techniques like power chords, palm muting, and string bending

Learning to play an acoustic guitar means you focus on classical, folk, country, pop, or blues music. A pick is optional in acoustic lessons, and you don't need amplifiers or cables. Acoustic teachers also place more emphasis on fingerpicking patterns.

  • Obtain a written schedule and contract before the first lesson.

  • Can I sample a lesson to gauge if your teaching style suits me?
  • What's the average age of your students?
  • What type of electric guitar would you recommend for me?
  • Will you assign homework, and how much practice should I put in?

  • Can you adapt your teaching methodology if I'm struggling with a concept?
  • What should I bring to class, and how long does each session last?

Are you looking for regular? Or are you looking for awesome? If it’s the latter, then you belong at Altered Stage. I found this glorious place through a Google search, and man - am I happy that I did. As a recreational guitar player with a baseline understanding of how to play, I was looking for a comfortable place to take my playing to the next level. I never imagined that I could engage in top notch music instruction, and also a community of likeminded recreational musicians who couldn’t have been more welcoming and supportive. The icing on the cake for me is the monthly gig. It’s the perfect balance of accountability and fun to keep my musical development moving at my pace while expanding my social circle with genuine people who I can now call friends. I know there are a ton of ways to learn how to play an instrument - I just can’t understand why anyone would do it outside of Altered Stage.
