Valerie Wellington is a passionate Indonesian classical pianist whose performances have taken her across Asia, Europe, and the United States. Beginning her piano studies at the age of 7, she has since captivated audiences in Indonesia, Singapore, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, Israel, and the U.S. With a Master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City under the mentorship of renowned pianist Alon Goldstein, she is now furthering her artistry at the Conservatorio di Musica “Luca Marenzio” in Brescia, Italy, studying with Davide Cabassi.
Valerie has appeared as a soloist with the Jefferson City Symphony Orchestra and has won top prizes in numerous competitions, including first prize at the 2024 Jefferson City International Piano Competition and the 2023 Kansas City Musical Club Competition. Her festival appearances include the Mozarteum Sommerakademie (Austria), Tel-Hai Masterclasses (Israel), the International Holland Music Sessions, and the Flagstaff and Berkshire Piano Festivals (USA).
Committed to bringing music to diverse audiences, she founded Musicians’ Journey, a concert series in Kansas City showcasing international performers and reaching underserved communities. Her recent performances include recitals in Milan, Pavia, and at the Brescia-Bergamo International Piano Festival, as well as a Beethoven Concerto No. 4 performance at Teatro Dal Verme, Milan, with MITO SettembreMusica.
Valerie has worked closely with distinguished artists such as Malcolm Bilson, Jonathan Biss, Kirill Gerstein, Christopher Elton, and Ingrid Fliter, and she performs a wide repertoire ranging from Bach to Adès. Fluent in Indonesian, English, Italian, Chinese, and basic Russian, she also shares her musical journey online through her video content and teaching initiatives.
