Graduated from SFCM, I teach piano and guitar and always give the first lesson for free to see if we are on the same page. I really only prefer to do 30min lessons if you come to me or have more than one student to make it an hour.

Hailey H. says, "I have been working with Nate for almost 3 years now and I have grown so much vocally and mentally. He understands which repertoire that suits you, which warms ups and vowels suit you best, and he can always tell when your voice is not feeling 100%. I have grown so much even since the beginning of last semester because Nate encourages realistic goals when it comes to practice and growth and he's helped me realize change doesn’t happen overnight. Stabilization and presence in my head voice has grown exponentially since I have worked with him and the knowledge that singing isn’t just about being the loudest voice in the room. It's a whole body experience. I wouldn’t trade the last three years for the world because I know that without Nate I would not be where I am today. -Hailey-ann H." Read more

I am a Louisville native with over 8 years of music teaching experience. As an orchestra librarian by trade, I have found that true music literacy comes from mastery of the fundamentals, knowledge of style (whatever your style of choice is!), and the ability to stay curious about music. Through teaching my students these three principals, my students become well-rounded musicians who are able to make and achieve their goals. Although I am classically trained, I adore ALL music styles and am happy to teach any style to the best of my ability. I have spent many years studying and working in early childhood education, but regularly teach ALL

Marisa M. says, "David is a very friendly instructor that likes to be detailed when it comes to getting me to learn the notes, the major scales, The Tetrachord learning process, how to transpose, understanding Sharps and Flats, and Half Steps and Whole Steps. He is a charming and funny instructor, yet he has a strong outline for his students. He really wants me to understand the whole concept of playing the piano. He really cares about his students and I am learning so much! Thank you, David, for being the best teacher ever!" Read more

I have decades of professional experience performing internationally, as well as experience teaching all age levels from young children to adults. I especially enjoy the challenge of tailoring my teaching to the individual learning styles and goals of each student. I encourage creativity through composition, songwriting and improvisation. I have taught music theory and composition at the college level, and teach many different styles of music. I have taught many students with special needs, including students with autism, Down Syndrome and cerebral palsy. I believe anyone who is motivated can learn, and that musical expression is everyon...

Children's Music Academy - Louisville, located in Prospect, Kentucky, is dedicated to making music learning fun for young children from ages 3 up to the 2nd grade. Their dynamic curriculum includes keyboarding, singing, note reading, basic guitar, and more. All lessons are delivered in a joyful and encouraging atmosphere, ensuring that children are inspired to discover their musical potential. I love that the kids learn along side their parents and truly enjoy the lightbulb moments when everything clicks. It's fun to see them play duets together and also to witness the kids as well as the parents grasp the theory concepts. It is such a joy

Reviews for Louisville music theory teachers

Recent success stories from people in the Louisville area.
Brandon B.
Griffin has been a great guitar teacher to work with! He has a lot of knowledge to share, and is willing to work on any aspects of music I have wanted to explore, from theory to technique, to various musical genres. I feel that I have progressed a lot in my guitar playing since working with him, and his teaching style and overall demeanor is laid back, welcoming and not intimidating. I also greatly value the in person lessons he offers, as a lot of other instructors have moved to an online format, which is less than ideal for me. I intend to continue lessons with Griffin, and highly recommend others consider him as well!
