About this pro

With 30 years of teaching experience, I am confident I am able to analyze any level golfer's swing. I can implement a program that is easy for a player to understand that can be quickly applied. My goal is to help every player get their swing and golf game to the level they seeking.  I strive to have players have fun with the game and not make it a job. I wil help players that wish to compete to raise their game to where they can be contenders.

Some of my students are out just having fun playing with their friends.  Some have broken par, others have won on various high school and college teams, and have won on the USKids, PGA and AJGA, Junior Tours, students have achieved PGA membership and some senior players have won and defended their club championships. I feel I can develop any player to produce their highest level of golf.

I have spent over 32 years studying, researching, learning, playing and teaching...In all those years I have finally come to the conclusion that training on the drving range hitting bucket after bucket, thousand of golf ball and hour after hour of training to groove a swing that it is all a waste of time...What I have learned in 32 years is if your really want your game to be the "BEST IT CAN BE" you need to be working with a Golf Professional that utilizes the latest in computer aided golf training systems.

My expertise has expanded to the useage of high tech computer aided training systems.   Your training will include the use of Launch Monitors where you can compare your ball flight characteristics to the Professional.  We will also use Video, we can analyze your swing techniques, stop action so you can see where you should be positioned at every point in your swing...Later we we can put your new swing skills to the test on the AboutGolf Simulators, the same system as seen on the Golf Channel, the PGA Tour broadcasts.

The use of these systems will advance your golf skills much faster than spending hours on the driving range hitting bucket after bucket after bucket and thousands of balls.  You can learn more about your swing in a tenth of the time spent on the driving range indoors in a comfortable environment condusive to learning.

I really enjoy to seeing players achieve their goals in golf. Love to see them smiling and jumping for joy when they hit that perfect shot!

I felt better about my swing after the first lesson. I went back for a second lesson and continue to work on the proper swing and tempo. I plan to work with John this winter.

He was able to "split" his time/lesson with my 2 boys or are at different levels of learning golf without making either one feel they weren't be neglected.

John is exceptional at communicating. From something as simple as scheduling to getting you to see what you need to modify or change in a matter of minutes. It's best to have him work with you multiple times. If you go once, received corrections and don't practice or follow up you'll revert back to what you are used to. Practice makes permanent (not perfect), perfect practice makes better. John can get you shooting better in minutes but that means nothing if you don't put in more work to make that your permanent swing. I recommend John and the facility he trains you in is comfortable with a video both, air conditioning and a camera/software system that gives you immediate visual feedback

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Your first lesson can be an overall evaluation, of grip, posture, stance, alignment, swing techniques, TEMPO, mental approach, evaluate equipment and plan training program.

Or we can work any of your specific needs to bring your game to the level you are seeking.

Subsequent sessions will address the training program, with procedures for grip, stance/posture, alignment, putting, on course strategy and on course play.

Or the first lesson could be your "Boot Camp" where I will establish the basics to get you started...we'll go over the procedure to how to place your hands on the club properly, how to get aligned to a target, set the proper distance from the target line, TEMPO and go over the different swing types, the different clubs in the bag and a basic course overview.

How did you get started teaching?

1988 had an injury three bones moved in my neck pinched a nerve and limited the use of my left hand.  After 2 years of therapy my Doctor advised it take up golf to build up my left arm.  For a year I hit 600 golf balls everyday 5 days a week.  I finally started putting the ball where I wanted it.  I then changed careers and worked in at vairous golf courses, and became members of multiple golf leagues.  Started teaching relatives, friends and associates, they all improved and suggested that I start teaching.  So in 1992 I became a teaching professional...and still teaching going into 2020.

What types of students have you worked with?

I am currently working one on one with Adult and Juinor students.  I pride myself in working with juniors and especially those on golf teams, high shcool to college. Some players have used golf as entry to college one student received a $25,000 scholarship to NYU another is the #4 college player on the Middlebury Golf Team another gained Professional status as a member of the PGA.  I have trained many #1 players on their respective high school golf teams.  I have workd as the Player Development Coach for the Manchester/Essex High School Golf Team.  My expertise includes training PGA Professionals as well as single digit players trying to shave off the last few strokes toward Stratch.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

One student, Ben, 9 years old shot 72 to par the course and win the USKids Boston Tour Players Championship, a two day event marked by rain both days.  Ben was tied the first day with 5 players shoothing 37...the second day he fell coming off a hill right into a huge puddle and was drenched, cold and shervering, and he still was able to mount a charge to shoot 35 and win the championship by 5 strokes...Ben was a teachers delight!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Golf is a roller coaster ride at best, there will be ups and downs and all arounds, but in order to enjoy it each player must have and even minded approach, not to get too high on the good shots and not to get too low on the not so good shots, but notice I said "good" and "not so good" every shot is good in golf just some more "gooder" then others...just realize that golf is a game, you cannot win or lose, you can only play the game.  Remember golf is a game for a lifetime, you have the rest of your life to learn, practice, play, meet people, travel to play there will never be a dull moment being involved in golf.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Are you willing to let go of all the things you have read or what friends have told you?

Are you open minded to accept new information?

Are you willing to practice?

Are you willing to get out of your comfort zone?

Are you able to fail or have a difficult time on the road to achieving your golfing goals?
