Adam's Sax And Flute Lessons
About
I am a professional saxophonist from the western Massachusetts area with degrees in music education and jazz studies and over 25 years of experience in saxophone playing. I have played in various bands of various styles including; jazz, pop, motown, rnb, Irish, classical, blues, funk, soul, classic rock and more. I love playing music, writing music, improvisation and sharing my knowledge and experience with students. I have taught private lessons since 2002 and have had several students go on to perform with district and state level bands and even continue performing after graduation as a side job. I have recieved multiple awards as a teacher and have been fortunate to meet/work with great musicians such as Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers and Jeff Coffin of the Dave Matthews Band. If you want lessons that are helpful, adaptive, informative AND fun, that is exactly what you will get with me.
I enjoy helping people, young and old, find the joy of playing music by taking them through the lesson process in a way that fits their learning style and have FUN doing it. Seeing the progress made and satisfaction on the faces of my students is what makes teaching lessons so worth while.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student I ask that they come to me with an example of something they play well and something that they struggle with. This shows me their strengths and weaknesses and allows me to see a wide range of their playing abilities. I like to have my students play as much as possible in the first lesson to give me a strong idea of where they are and helps me form an approach to the lessons and what to work on. I also try to get an idea of what the student likes in terms of music and what their goals are.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in music education and jazz studies. I was a public school music teacher at a high school for six years. I have taught private lessons since 2002 and ha e been a professional musician since 2002.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually ask for $20 for a half hour, $30 for 45 minutes of $40 for an hour lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
While studying music in college I began working part time at a local music shop teaching saxophone, flute and clarinet. Upon graduating I began teaching on my own privately as well as in public schools. I also worked as a beginning saxophone class instructor at a local elementary school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all kinds of students and of all ages. From kids 7 years old to adults in their 60s, from beginners to all state level musicians. I love working with all ages and abilities.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who has experience and displays a love of what they do. Your teacher should be passionate about teaching music and about you, the student learning and growing as a musician. Look for someone who goes above and beyond to help you and not just to make their money.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Whats do I want to get out of lessons?
