Samantha C. says, "Ian is a very patient & teaches in an individualized student centered manner! He takes his time to study his student to figure out their learning style whether that is visual, hands on , auditory or a combination of all the styles ! If you are stronger in one style he will make sure to use that one but incorporate the others to strengthen them . Another reason I loved Ian as an instructor in guitar is that he would incorporate theory and then something “fun” such as learning a song you personally have as a goal to learn . He also takes his time to figure out your goals , for me it was to be able to sing and play guitar at the same time . So of course vocals were incorporated with the lesson !" Read more

Charlotte .. says, " I think Ann started around the holiday season, she’s had about one academic semester of once per week classes. She was still 2 years old when she started at Ottley’s Music School. Now she can find middle C, identify A, B or C anywhere on the keyboard, read notations like piano meaning play softly, fortissimo meaning play loudly, and quarter rest. She has been introduced to half and full notes and rests, but doesn’t yet consistently apply them. She can play simple 3-note sequences with either the left or right hand but sometimes prefers to play all notes with either her thumb or index finger rather than following the assigned fingers for each key. It’s really an extraordinary amount of progress for her age. I’ve been surprised" Read more

Hello my name is Anthony Hooker and I teach Guitar lessons for Bel Air Arts Academy. Contact Bel Air Arts Academy to schedule a lesson with me. Thank you. A little about me- I have always had a deep love and appreciation for music ever since I was a child. My family says that at an early age I was always singing and tapping my foot to something. My Musical journey began in the form of piano and voice lessons at the end of elementary school through middle school. At 14 I expressed a desire to play the bass which I did for a time until around age 17 when I changed my focus to the electric guitar, from which there was no turning back, ha-ha. I

I am a multi instrumentalist (guitar, bass, pedal steel, mandolin, dobro, etc) well versed in many genres who is sought out as a session musician and sideman. My formal education and gives him a firm grasp of music theory and my diverse background performing and creating gives me a broad understanding of music. As a teacher I tailor lessons to bring the student from where they are to where they want to be with no judgment, and with great patience. The best parts of teaching are spreading joy and knowledge of the craft of music, seeing a student improve with practice, seeing the spark of passion ignite a lifelong love of music....

Daysha M.
He’s awesome! I feel like i’m actually learning when we have a session. Any questions that i have he’s has an answer, even if it’s not directly about the bass, like music theory or anything about music in general. He also talked time to learn what I want out of being a musician and curates our lessons to that while still teaching me fundamentals. #1 things is that he’s patient. If he knows that pure trying and your not getting it he’s will to got over a section again and again until you get it right. Very thankful for David.

Ian is a very talented guitar and music theory instructor! He helped me grow as a musician and better understand the theory behind music so I could apply things like scales on my own. He is a creative and thoughtful teacher and helps to explain not just how to play music but why certain musical theory rules work. I highly recommend Ian and I think anyone who works with him will also grow tremendously in their musical skill. - Eric
