About
¡Hola!
I'd love to teach you Spanish!
I have been a Spanish teacher and tutor for 16 years. My style is likely different from most. My degree is in Education with a special interest in second language acquisition. I am trained and keep up-to-date with the pedagogical research on the most effective ways to acquire language. Whomever you end up choosing as your language instructor, be sure to ask what method they use and what the research says about their method, so that you're not wasting you money on sessions that won't help you reach your goal.
I use CI and TPRS to teach Spanish. These methods are backed by the research as being the most effective to get students using the language instead of just knowing about the language. You'll speak, read, write, and listen to Spanish better after 6 months of these methods than you will after 2 years of the more frequently used traditional grammar based methods. If you're curious to know more, look into Steven Krashen or Bill VanPatten. They are second language acquisition experts. My lessons are guided by their research.
My teaching style is fun and personalized. It is based on input of comprehensible chunks of language. We will NOT be bogged down by difficult to understand grammar rules (that end up having exceptions anyway) or never ending conjugation drills. (Though we can learn these if you'd like.)
We can meet in person also, in a safe, public location for an additional travel fee. I live in Catonsville, about 20 minutes from downtown Baltimore. Coffee shops, libraries, parks, churches make great locations for tutoring.
I love teaching Spanish and building relationships with my students! My classes are fun and personalized. We laugh, use music, movement, and stories to acquire language. This method is much more engaging than using a grammar drill workbook. I love what I do because my students love what I do!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I offer a free, no obligation demo and "get to know you" session so we can see if we're a good fit.

We can meet virtually over Zoom or in person in a safe, public location.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I teach using CI and TPRS, the methods most useful for second language acquisition based on research from the last 40 years.
I've been teaching Spanish for 14 years both in the classroom and in one-on-one tutoring. I learned Spanish at home as a child and continued learning as an adult. I learned English in school, becoming fully fluent by third grade. I do not have an accent in either language.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$60 per week. This includes a 1-hour live session, assignments and resources for home study, and access to me via email thoughout the week.
You can share this cost with other learners. 2 students pay $30 each per week. 4 students pay $15 per week.
How did you get started teaching?
My favorite game as a kid was "playing school" with anyone who was willing. I was always the teacher!
I graduated with a degree in Education in 2005 and have completed several masters level courses and trainings in second language acquisition.

I was fortunate enough to learn Spanish at home before learning English. I am a first generation American. My family relocated to the US from Ecuador just before I was born. I have no accent in either Spanish or English.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students as young as 2 years old in an immersion setting. They learn the quickest by far!
I have also taught elementary, middle and high school students.
Teaching adults is my newest endeavor! I have a few months of experience volunteering as an English tutor for people who are new to this country.
