Geetha M. says, "David is the absolute best! As an adult, among the number of things I’ve always wanted to do, singing seemed intriguing yet challenging. I signed up for an online piano class with a hope to learn to sing. It was not until I joined a Christmas choir and mentioned my interest to David that I really began to learn to play the piano and sing along with the right pitch, timing and tune. David’s music is not only soulful but fascinating in that he can make even a simple tune sound marvelous. As a teacher he is patient, kind and encouraging, allowing his students to shine while loving the art of playing the piano. I have grown to love both singing and playing the piano. It is an exhilarating feeling which also gives me peace and joy. I am grateful and honored to recommend David for his piano teaching prowess." Read more

What are classical piano lessons?

Classical piano lessons teach you the traditional playing style of music written by composers like Mozart and Beethoven. You'll also learn important techniques and how to read sheet music of classical arrangements.

How long must you take piano lessons to play classical?

You must take piano lessons for 1 to 2 years with consistent practice to play simple classical pieces. Some people can make faster progress if they practice more often or have prior musical experience.

How long are classical piano lessons?

Classical piano lessons are 30 to 60 minutes long on average. The amount of time varies according to the teacher's style and the abilities of the student.

How do I find the best classical piano lessons near me?

Find classical piano lessons from private instructors by looking through the listings here on the Lessons website. Local music schools sometimes offer virtual lessons online as well.

Prior to hiring a local piano instructor, you should always:

  • Secure a minimum of 3 lesson cost estimates to get a clear comparison.
  • Read their ratings on sites such as Lessons and Google.
  • Talk to students on their references list.
  • Collect a written agreement and a lesson timeline before lessons begin.
  • Wait until after your preliminary sessions to start pre-booking for a month of lessons.

What question do I ask when choosing classical piano lessons?

When you're searching for a piano teacher, be sure to ask these questions:

  • How many years have you been teaching piano?
  • What is your formal music education background?
  • Which classical music composers are your favorites?
  • What is the typical age range of your students?
  • Do you offer a trial lesson, either for free or at a discounted rate?
  • If I don't have a piano, what type of keyboard should I get for practicing?
  • How much practice should I be doing outside of our lessons?
  • What textbooks do I need, and what's their cost?
  • Do you give assignments or pieces to memorize after each lesson?
  • Can you adapt your teaching style based on the individual student's needs?
  • What should I bring with me to our lessons?
  • How many different piano genres and styles can you teach?
  • Can I get a written copy of our agreement and the payment terms?
  • What is your policy for cancelling a lesson?
  • Will I be able to choose some of my own favorite songs to learn?

I have know David since 2007 and have collaborated with him on several occassions relating to music. Rarely does one come across musical skill and talent such as the one David posseses. It has always been a pleasure not only to work with him, but to just listen to him play the piano. Undoubtedly a man with exceptional musical skills. Manny F

I am an adult piano learner with a musical background in the voice especially. Aiesh is a kind and friendly teacher. She cares about the success of the student. I like the selection of books and other materials that she uses. For me it helps go over music theory well and solidifies it. Aiesh is good at pointing out when you need to play differently to match what is written in the music. She is very good at encouraging you both when you have done well and when you need to improve. I had a very positive experience!

It is great pleasure to share my experience here. Ms Bella is my son - Eric's first piano teacher. Eric took piano lessons with Bella beginning September 2013 and he stayed with Ms. Bella ever since until she left Syracuse in December 2016. Ms Bella is good at teaching her students according to their levels of knowledge and ability. She not only taught the basic skills and emphasizing on scales and fingering, but she also focused on the dynamics, on how to bring color to the music piece. She was also able to impart her enthusiasm and love of playing the piano onto Eric. Rather than working directly from a piano lesson book, she would select and play difference pieces of music to allow Eric to choose what he wants to learn. She also encouraged Eric to find out more about the composer of the music he played. By doing so, Eric became more interested in practicing and playing piano. Ms. Bella is friendly and patient. She would praise Eric's accomplishments and acknowledge each newly learned measure of music. She was very proud of each student and was evident during recitals that were held twice a year. Ms. Bella plays an important role in fostering Eric's interest in music. It also helped him to learn other music instrument with the greatest of ease. I respect Ms. Bella for many of her qualities. I highly recommend her as a piano teacher and I am envious of her future students who can experience her passion and love of music.
