Richard B. says, "We loved working with Doug! He has worked with my son for 3 years and we see improvement every lesson! Doug has a way of being kind but pushing the kids for everything they have and getting great results. We found that Cooper gets much more from one lesson with coach Doug than he would in an entire group clinic. Best choice we made when it came to giving my son an opportunity to get to his maximum potential." Read more

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do private baseball lessons cost?

Private baseball lessons cost $50 to $75 per 30-minute lesson and $80 to $140 per 1-hour lesson. The price depends on your location, the instructor's experience and reputation, the student's age, and whether the lesson includes extras like a video analysis of the player's performance.

Many coaches offer lower prices per lesson if you purchase a package that includes 6 or 10 lessons. The average package prices are:

  • 6 pack of 30-minute lessons: $270 – $420
  • 6 pack of 1-hour lessons: $450 – $720
  • 10 pack of 30-minute lessons: $400 – $600
  • 10 pack of 1-hour lessons: $700 – $1,100

Are private baseball lessons worth it?

Private baseball lessons may be worth it if your child currently plays the sport, loves it, and has expressed an interest in improving their skills and performance. Private lessons can help your child advance their skills, develop good habits, and avoid forming bad habits.

Motivation and a drive to improve are key factors in whether or not the lessons will actually help your child. It's important for your child to practice in between private lessons.

Children who receive private baseball lessons are usually more likely to advance to playing at higher levels than children who only receive group coaching during regular team practice. However private lessons don't guarantee your child will play collegiate or professional baseball.

What is the difference between private and semi-private baseball lessons?

In a private baseball lesson, the athlete trains one-on-one with an instructor who tailors the lesson specifically to their needs and skill level. In a semi-private lesson, two athletes work together with one instructor. Semi-private lessons, also called partner lessons, typically cost 10% to 20% less than private lessons. However, because the trainer's attention is divided between the two athletes, the athletes don't get the same level of individualized instruction as they would in a private lesson.

What age should you start pitching lessons?

Baseball instructors generally recommend that children start pitching lessons at around 8 to 12 years old, though there are no age requirements or exact rules. Learning fundamental pitching skills early on can help your child avoid developing bad habits that will be difficult for them to break later.

However, your child should not start taking pitching lessons until they are comfortable throwing the ball as well as catching the ball one-handed.

Coach Douge Schildgen worked with my grandson this spring to help him improve his batting skills. My grandson had participated in Little League for two seasons prior to meeting Douge, and because his hitting was inconsistent and he was striking out a fair amount of the time, his self-confidence had started to waver. It took only a couple of lessons for us to see a big difference in my grandson’s form and to notice an assertiveness in his swing that he hadn't had before. Douge encouraged him to practice his stance in front of the mirror for a few minutes each day, and my grandson took Douge’s advice to heart. Practice indeed made a difference. Douge currently coaches a high school baseball team, and he has gained a tremendous amount of experience from his many years of coaching. He exudes knowledge, is a highly skilled (and patient) instructor, and my grandson always looked forward to his lessons. Douge is a delight to work with. He is reliable, committed to his craft, and his work, without a doubt, warrants at least a five-star rating. If you're going to interview several batting instructors, make sure that Douge is among them. You'll want your player to receive topnotch instruction, which is something you'll get from Coach Douge.

Tom created lessons to meet my son where is was and helped him improve in all areas. So much that his coaches mentioned that my son’s game was now on a higher level than the previous season. Selfishly I don’t want him to get too busy and he’s a great coach. I would highly recommend.
