Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
the Spanish language they know and how much more do they want to learn. Making mini goals towards the bigger picture allows the student to make greater progress in a less stressful and grueling environment. Unlike the traditional classroom work, I make it my goal to create a connection between the student and the Spanish culture and language.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated and received my high school with the Spanish immersion medal meaning that I took 4 full years of the Spanish immersion program and completed the IB personal project in Spanish. I also have previous experience with the Spanish language as I’ve been learning in a bilingual program for 14 years. I translate and have unofficially been translating both languages for my family and church/community.
How did you get started teaching?
I would usually teach out of fun just because of the vast amount of knowledge I have in the Spanish language. I helped friend and relatives throughout my school years.
What types of students have you worked with?
I’ve worked with all kinds of people from various age groups starting from 4 year olds to college students (crazy right!). I also have experience working with students that have special needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to help teach the 1 year old of a friend of mine Spanish. As crazy as that sounds, I’ve had a blast interacting with the little student as well as seeing the progress they’ve made as their speech and vocabulary are starting to expand as well as they’re comprehension which is incredibly adorable and fun.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Think about what it is that you want to learn or do with the Spanish language. How far are you willing to go with your knowledge? Learning Spanish isn’t impossible, anyone can learn it though the level of Spanish they acquire is up to them. Are you willing to challenge yourself and try new things? It’s okay to make mistakes, that’s how you’ll grow from it!
