About

I originally got started with bass guitar at 8yrs old and acoustic guitar at 9yrs old to play hyms in the church I was brought up in. Now, after more than 15 years of playing, I play everything from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Chris Stapleton. My primary inspriation recently is more aligned with Warren Haynes and Jimi Hendrix.

My passion for music is pure expression. To me, if you've never so much as touched a guitar, just the act of playing a single note will make you a guitarist! My aim in teaching guitar is to help you (and me) to reach our guitar goals. Wanna play that awesome song thats stuck in your head? Let's learn it together! Need help learning complicated theory, I have a few tricks that may help!

I currently play bass for a red-dirt country band and also lead guitar in a rock band as well as a solo act that leans a little more into the folk world. I also played bass in a bluegrass/gospel band growing up.

It would be my pleasure to share my knowledge with you! And who knows, maybe there's something I can learn from you as well!

I enjoy the feeling of not being able to verbalize what I'm feeling, but once I start playing my guitar, people can feel what I'm feeling in my music. I enjoy the escape from reality when I'm really in my zone. I enjoy coming up with "new" ideas and musical expression that has been lost to years of people teaching from the "right way to do things" angle. I enjoy it all because sometimes there aren't any descriptive words to explain what I'm going through and I need something to aimg about.

    Frequently asked questions

I like for people to feel like they are in control of their learning. We will probably start with a discussion about goals and interests, but I what matter the most to me is that you feel like you've got a friend that will jam out and have a good time with... Without judgement or pretentiousness.

I played bass/guitar for a bluegrass gospel band from 2006-2012, played bass/piano/vocals for the Baptist church I was raised in, I've been a solo performing/recording guitarist since 2017, I recently joined a red dirt country band and play bass/vocals, and I'm establishing a psychedelic blues/rock band.

I think the first lesson should always be free. That way if you aren't satisfied or if you feel I'm not the right fit, you aren't out anything up front. After the first lesson I generally charge $20/hr.

Fellow members of the church I went to began paying me for lessons at one point. The first 'student' I had didn't take well, but as time passed and I grew more into showing people what I know and helping them progress how they wanted to.

Mostly friends of mine who asked me to teach them or their children things about guitar. I had a hiatus of teaching during my military service and now feel more prepared than ever to do lessons.

I recently covered a blues song by the artist Johann Shaw Taylor titled 'jealousy'. Every show/busking set that I perform that cover ALWAYS gets applause. I'm still not sure what exactly it is about that song that draws so well, but it's definitely a favorite of mine to play and a favorite for my fans as well

Find the teacher that melds well with you. I personally have never taken lesson and consider myself "self taught", but I've heard scores of bad teacher horror stories. And the craziest part is that most of these "bad teachers" aren't bad! They just don't get along well with you or their method of teaching just doesn't stick with you for some reason. So my advice is do research about your teacher, maybe reach out for a consult to see if you both have the same goals.

What is the main reason that you want to learn guitar?

What goals do you want to accomplish with guitar playing?

What kind of music do you want to learn?

How much do you already know about guitar?

How much time do you have to dedicate to practice/learning?

What style/kind of guitar playing interests you most?
