I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Master’s in Spanish Literature and Linguistics in 2004 and have been teaching and tutoring students between the ages of 5-65 ever since.
I taught various levels of high school Spanish full-time for 2 years followed by 12 years of teaching beginning and intermediate Spanish language and linguistics classes at Northwestern University.
I also had the opportunity to teach a class of students between the ages of 5-7 over the summer while I was in graduate school.
I can use different pedagogical approaches depending on the needs and goals of each individual, and all lessons are tailored to each specific student.
I enjoy working with a variety of students from different backgrounds. It's great to get to know new people and I find the work to be very fulfilling.

Working with Jill Felten is an incredibly rewarding experience. I took a college-level class with Jill, and it was by far the best experience I have to date at my university. Jill, with her creativity and thoughtfulness, creates an environment that is not only welcoming, but fosters learning in a way that is challenging yet comfortable. Her flexible nature and ability to tailor to her students’ needs ensures that each student reaches their personal goals. By taking a class with Jill, I was able to work with a knowledgeable professor, but more importantly, I gained a mentor that has helped me grow as a student and as a person. Any form of tutoring with Jill will be an enriching experience, and I cannot recommend her enough. She is absolutely incredible!
I learned more Spanish in the few months Jill taught me than I learned in my years of study before. She always made me feel comfortable in our conversations, asking questions to help me focus on parts of the language I wasn't strong enough with yet (like larger numbers) while keeping the exchange natural and laid-back.
We get together and talk about the student’s level and individual needs and I develop a plan based on each individual’s goals and needs.
I have an MA in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
