Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I talk to the student to see what motivates him/her. It is important to discuss the student's level, learning style, interests and goals while learning Spanish. I also share some information about myself.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Spanish, New Jersey City University, English Literature, Montclair State University. I have taught Elementary and High School and done private tutoring. At this moment I am mentoring two novice Spanish teachers.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Certified teachers charge $35 and up per hour. I have decided to keep the lowest rate, to give students a better chance to afford the classes. It is a great investment!
How did you get started teaching?
After I graduated college I worked as a substitute teacher and fell in love with the profession. My parents were teachers too, now retired.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, different levels, special needs and general education.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am mentoring a novice teacher and feel very proud because of the way the has learned to manage her class, implement engaging activities and motivate her students. Yesterday she had an evaluation and did very well. She has shown great improvement! I feel very proud of her!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look at the certifications, experience and meet her to see if you like her personality.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about your actual level, where do you want to go and the effort you are willing to put to improve your language skills.
