I teach not just the violin but music. I provide context. I teach some music theory and music history. I think it helps to understand what you are playing and where it came from. I have degrees in composition and music theory as well as undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy. Also, I really emphasize sound. I think it's so important whether you're learning the violin at 6 or 60. Sound is so magical; it surrounds and stimulates us. You can feel the violin vibrate when you play it! I've been teaching violin, viola, and chamber music in the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division for over 20 years. I have performed in more than 200 U.S. cities, as well as in Canada, Korea, Austria, France, and Russia, so I know what it takes to be a performer.
