About this pro

Hi I'm Luz . I'm from Colombia, came here 30 years ago after I graduated with a Degree in Special Education . I taught for 3 years and then I came to USA and I change my career , now I want to teach Spanish, knowing that there is a great demand for tutors in Spanish , I love to help people reach their goal , specially the conversation skills for the ones that want to practice them . And from the beginners to teach them the basics to be able to feel comfortable with a general knowledge of my native language. I have a flexible schedule so I will find a time for people needs .

The teaching experience and achievements of people who begin to speak and understand Spanish are a great boost for them and for me as a tutor or teacher.

I love to help people break the barriers of communication with other cultures and expand the knowledge that they have about my native language.

Luz has done written transcriptions and live translations for our organization for over 10 years, from english into spanish. She’s a skilled translator, and does extremely well with colloquialisms which are often the trickiest part of translating. I highly recommend her.

I was skeptical at first as learning another language is usually a struggle for me but I figured why not give it a try. I've tried the different versions of audio lessons and spending money on small classes here and there but nothing really worked. But then I found Luzita's class and something amazing happened. She teaches at an easy and simple pace so I can understand. She talks about herself being so connected to her family and life along with her goals and I can sense that all in her classes. She is very nice and kind and demonstrates such a professional matter and works very well with each person. If you are like me and wish to find a passion or interest in learning spanish, Luzita's class is the class for you.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I want to know why they are choosing Spanish language , and what they want to do with it .

I want to know how much knowledge they have of Spanish and what are their expectations and goals .

After I find out about their needs , we can do a plan of the class that fit them.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I graduated with a Degree in Special Education. My first language is Spanish and I speak English also . So I can say that I'm bilingual. I used both languages in a daily basis . And I do writing translations from English to Spanish often .

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My first class will be $15 for an hour and after that depends on the number of classes the person wants and further classes could lead to a discount.
People can use PayPal , QuickPay with Zelle , Venmo to pay for classes .

How did you get started teaching?

I starting teaching 35 years ago in my Country ( Colombia) then I came to USA and change my career for a while and overtime, I decided I want to help people learn my beautiful language , I also taught crafts to kids in summer programs , and I do translations when needed.

What types of students have you worked with?

Children between 5-12 years but I will love to work with Adults .

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

My last summer program, the joy of the kids learning new stuff .

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Find someone that you feel is right for you . Someone that can give you the attention, time , patience , and make you feel that you are his /her best student .

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

- is this the path I want to enter in?

- What happens next after my first class ?
