What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first half hour is devoted to clarification of terms and duties on both sides. The second half hour is devoted to motivation towards learning a foreign language successfully. The second hour is devoted to reviewing previous learning and difficulties. Immediately after that, I proceed to engage the student in a communicative routine to develop basic mental processes to ensure learning. If the level of the student is ADVANCED, then the interaction will move to a conversational communicative approach. Emphasis will always be placed on the student 's needs and expectations.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
A bachelor's degree in TEFL, a Master's degree in Linguistics, a Master's degree in Education and a Ph.D. in Education plus some 15 years in teaching and researching in Education. Students are in very good hands!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually charge 90 dollars for a one on one lesson of 50 minutes. When I teach very small groups (up to 4 students) I charge a little bit less according to the level of mastery.
How did you get started teaching?
After the third semester of my language teaching career at the university in Venezuela I engaged in formally teaching high school students

Basically college students and adults older than 25 seeking to learn English or Spanish as foreign languages.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Just make sure you establish a good rapport with the person teaching you and also the patience that person is willing to invest in whatever learning difficulties you might face.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
In an open and trustful teaching-learning relationship any professional question is valid. Trust and confidence in your tutor are key elements for a successful learning process enriched by an inquisitively healthy attitude on the part of the student.
