Leslie S. says, "Andrew is an excellent teacher. He teaches my daughter clarinet and he is very patient and kind but also meticulous and pays attention to details in her performance that they then work on. He is reliable and truly seems to love music and teaching music to children. We are lucky to have found him." Read more

I offer a fresh perspective on the role of the music teacher. I'm certainly here to help my students learn the fundamentals, but I believe in a why-first approach to lessons. If I can't clearly articulate the reason why we're doing something and the impact it will have on a student's progress or understanding, then we don't do it. Nothing is arbitrary, and every moment is useful. I try to make sense of things by observing the patterns and relationships at play in the world around me, and I often employ this approach in my curriculum. Whether we're discussing scales, chords, saxophone technique, vocal technique or songwriting—everything can be...

Eric B. says, "My son Tom was a first-year public school band student (saxophone) in fourth grade. I wanted to keep him playing during the summer, and Matt really came through with challenging and engaging practice sessions. Tom said it was harder than band practice, and pretty soon I found that he was opening the case and practicing on his own without any prompting from me. Matt helped him pick some music to work on, set some goals, and they consistently worked and advanced, and worked and advanced. Tom did his lessons over Zoom and it was ideal. I could hear in the tone in my son's voice that he really liked Matt and felt relaxed. And then I would hear this organized, structured practice session, and I was amazed at how Tom improved. This fall a buddy of Tom's from another school asked the Band teacher if he know my son. The Band teacher said yes he did, and that Tom was the best saxophone player in the fifth grade! I'm grateful to Matt for working with my kid, and I'm looking forward to hiring him again." Read more

I am a professional musician in New York City and have been teaching for nearly a decade. I have a masters degree from Manhattan School of Music in jazz performance, and have played at many storied venues including Smalls, Nublu, and The Hugh. I love to teach music of all kinds to students, and to me making sure students are excited about playing their instrument is far more important than any scale or technique I might teach them. I am passionate about my students and the joy of watching a student progress and the sense of accomplishment they display is what its all about!

Noah R. says, "I've had a lot of music teachers and saxophone teachers that all tried to get me to play the way they wanted me to play, and I've hated it. What's great about Jim is that he really allows you to play like yourself and he just facilitates that and acts as a catalyst. He also plays with a lot of top tier musicians in NYC so you know the information you get is coming straight from the source. I would credit Jim a lot with where I'm at as a musician and with my acceptance into the programs I'm in. P.S. Jim actually practices what he preaches. If you want a great teacher, learn from the guy who does the thing you want to do." Read more

I have been playing the saxophone and piano for several years and am currently studying music performance at the Brooklyn College Conservatory, with my focus on the saxophone. Music is a pursuit that I will never get tired of because there is so much to learn and listen to! I find that teaching helps me solidify my knowledge and also helps me gain more insight about what it is I may be teaching. I am happy to teach from foundational level and onward. I offer music theory, ear training, saxophone and piano lessons!...

Mark P. says, "Dylan met me exactly where I was with my playing and has worked hard to get me to the next level. Dylan has helped me with every aspect of my playing, and he doesn't just show me how to do it; he shows me why it works. Very musical guy. I'd highly recommend him!" Read more

I am a graduate from Berklee school of music with a master in jazz studies. I studied music in an academic setting my entire life. But then, I discovered that I was thought the fast way. The way to just get a gig. I then through a friend discovered joe Solomon. Joe’s teaching is the way to internalize the language of music. It’s the way to have a voice and a vocabulary. Not only to get a gig but to feel and experience music. Joe changed my way of seen music forever. He is an amazing musician as well as an amazing human been. If you are serious about Music you must have lessons with Mr. Solomon. He will change your life.

I like how Matt insists on slowing everything down to really get a good understanding of notes, rythem, etc. He is a very fun person and knows a LOT about music. Matt is a super supportive instructor!

Dave is one of the most professional and knowledgeable teachers I have ever had. He was able to break me out of the rut I was in and get me to look at the fretboard completely differently. He taught complex theory concepts ( at least complex to me) extremely patiently and thoroughly. Weekly lessons always felt personalized, Dave was always prepared for each virtual lesson with a specific concept to teach that was geared toward me and my playing. Thank you for everything Dave! I hope to be able to return soon.
