If I can't clearly articulate the reason why we're doing something and the impact it will have on a student's progress or understanding, then we don't do it. I am a professional musician in New York City and have been teaching for nearly a decade. I have a masters degree from Manhattan School of Music in jazz performance, and have played at many storied venues including Smalls, Nublu, and The Hugh. I love to teach music of all kinds to students, and to me making sure students are excited about playing their instrument is far more important than any scale or technique I might teach them. I have been playing the saxophone and piano for several years and am currently studying music performance at the Brooklyn College Conservatory, with my focus on the saxophone.
