DB Short Game Lessons
About
Golf has been a passion of mine throughout my life. Growing up watching Tiger Woods had a huge impact on my drive to improve my skills and learn more about this great game. I've been in the golf industry for well over 10 years and have seen and learned many techniques and nuances along the way. Working at one of Austin's finest private clubs, I've been able to key in on habits from many top PGA Tour pros and sit in on countless lessons given to amatuers. I've given many lessons myself and tips on the driving range and would like to show people how to get started with solid fundamentals as a foundation. After learning how to fix my own occasional push/slice, without any instruction needed, I feel I'm more than capable of helping beginners learn the skills needed to enjoy this amazing game.
Helping people enjoy this game more and be able to play with more leisure brings me great satisfaction. When it clicks and they see how easy and fun this great game is, that's what keeps me interested in teaching. I love those little breakthroughs when golf becomes more second nature.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Evaluate their skill level and how long they've been playing the game. Figuring out their strengths, weaknesses and what they'd like to inprove on the most. Have a light warm up session and stress the importance of stretching and preparing properly. Then diving into fundamentals that I see need work and moving on to more nuanced advice and crtitiques. Ensure their satisfaction at the end of the lesson and go over the keys we focused on to improve their individual game. Reccomend homework and drills as needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Countless books, Youtube instructionals, Mickelson, Watson, Leadbetter DVD series. Lessons of my own from Buck Mayers in Austin, TX. Sit in's on hundreds of lessons given by PGA professionals and my own lessons and tips given to numerous amatuers and beginners.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our first meeting and level of satisfaction with my teaching abilities, will determine what rate you'd be comfortable with for the inital and any additional lessons. If you weren't happy with your first session, feel free to compensate me with whatever you feel is reasonable for the quality of my services. I'm not trying to get rich doing this, merely help people enjoy the game and hopefully supplement my income in the process.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching by helping my father with his swing, short game and putting. Also giving lessons to other family members and close friends in the past. I've always had a very strong passion for short game/chipping and putting especially.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with many skill levels but I tend to work mainly with beginners and high handicappers.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I look back fondly at a range session with my parents and brother in-law. My mother and brother in-law never play the game. After a couple quick adjustments, they were hitting the ball solid and straight down the middle. This was very satisfying on both ends. Those types of moments bring me pure joy.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Shop around first. Also, find somebody who can teach you feel thoughts and not be so technical or throw too much at you at once.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Figure out what you want to improve on the most. Whether it be your driver, irons, short game, putting or course management/mental game.
