About this pro

Coyote Music Studio specializes in music education and music therapy for all ages. We teach flute, piano, drums, ukulele, guitar, and recorder in private and group lessons. Tonya Blum, the owner, is a music therapist and previously  PreK-6th Music teacher who has provided services in public and charter schools, therapeutic clinics, and private homes. She believes that music is social and theory is best learned in a group where 2 or more parts can be played/sung together but that private lessons are also important in order to master an instrument. We offer summer music camps and homeschool music classes through the fall/spring semesters. Check out our website for more information!

I have a passion for early childhood music because studies show that early and ongoing musical training helps organize and develop children's brains by forming new synapses math, language, and emotion. Early musical training has been shown to increase speacial-temporal reasoning 40% more than no musical training.

Tonya's extensive experience with children the Dallas school district shows through her ability to calm and hold the attention of even the most active kiddos. She's an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist and her sessions honed in on much-needed skills - the kids had so much fun they didn't realize they were doing tough cognitive work! Can't say enough great things about Tonya and Coyote Music Studio!

Ms. Blum has the most effective teaching style I have seen in quite some time. I knew that as a music therapist, she would be aquainted with different learning styles and abilities, and that this would serve my curious homeschooler exactly. She allows the students to lead in explaining concepts and techniques, which is great both for the teacher and the student. As a retired teacher myself, I cannot recommend Coyote Studio highly enough.
