About
Cello! My name is Rachel Harris and I’ve been teaching private cello lessons for 22 years. I love what I do, and love seeing my students learn, grow, and enjoy every aspect of playing the cello! I teach from 3 books, (note reading/theory, Suzuki/ ABC’s, and a cello duet method- Dotzauer) I also provide sheet music that I personally write for my little studio orchestra, and community orchestra for beginners- Advanced players.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I build a solid foundation of Bowing while each new student is learning how to read notes, and learn where each note is on their cello.
This helps focus on technique, and note reading. Improving sight reading skills, long term.
I also start each beginner with the beginning group to learn how to play with others right from the start.
I always make sure each student leaves feeling accomplished, and with a smile on their face. Music should always be challenging, and enjoyable.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching for over 18 years, and have loved every minute of it! I am classically trained on the cello, and have played with the several Symphony, and advanced groups everywhere I have lived throughout my life..

How did you get started teaching?
When I was 14, preforming in Handels Messiah, a guest asked if I taught cello lessons. My private cello teacher quickly answered for me, saying: “Yes! She does!”
My teacher then took me under her wing for over a year. She taught me everything she knew about teaching to get results. I teach from the Paul Tortellier method. Very relaxed, and ergonomically correct. I teach ear training, and group music to help each student get a well rounded education.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all ages, and personality types. Everyone is able to be successful, as long as the student is willing to put the work in.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you always look for a teacher who watches techniques very closely, that is often what I find slips through the cracks, with new students that come to me.
