Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have an interview and evaluation to determine the Spanish level. I provide the bibliography to the student to start working together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an Educational Psychologist, and most of my life, I have worked in the education field.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The standard price is $65 per hour. However, I can adjust the price on some occasions.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching after graduating college, and I started working with adults 18 years ago.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have experience working from K-12 and professionals. I have worked with several government agencies, like the Department of Treasury, State, Commerce, and DEA.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A student of mine needed to "recognize" an outstanding Hispanic person for "Hispanic Heritage Month" and this student. Decided to recognize me, she said that I was her inspiration for learning and feeling proud of her culture. That was a fantastic experience for me as an educator.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Hire a teacher that loves his or her work. Someone that WANTS to teach you and enjoys his or her work. Someone with experience and knowledge. Teaching a language is not only knowing how to speak the language; as a teacher, you need to know the rules and know how to explain the rules so that the student understands them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do you want to learn the language? Do you want to know it because of your work, or do you have another reason? Are you committed to learning?
