Hello,
I am fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and English As a Second Language. I also teach accent reduction. I have lived, taught and worked as well as travelled extensively I Brasil Mexico, Argentina Honduras and Costa Rica over the years. I’ve taught all ages of students with success. Additionally, I’ve taught in environments from independent private classes, small groups and in industry environments as well. Let’s meet to discuss your goals and design your course for success. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to meet one on one to discuss the students goals, availability and any questions about learning language skills. Once I have a good idea of their goals we can work to set up an agreement for weekly coursework. I Have a basic textbook that I like to use, as well as suggestions for support materials. Once agreed upon, I order the books and materials for the beginning class.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was blessed to have lived, worked and studied in Brasil for my Portuguese skills over 19 different times. Ranging from1-3 year stays each time.
I have studied in Costa Rica and returned to work and visit over some 20 years. I taught ESL to foreign school children and large corporate employees for major Telecommunication firms.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I tend to choose a flat per hour rate of $35/hr up to $50/hr,,for basic Spanish or Portuguese but depends on distance to travel.
How did you get started teaching?
I love to travel. That and the desire to understand the countries and cultures better, as well as become part of the community
What types of students have you worked with?
I teach both Adult professionals, retirees, as well as students who want to learn language skills.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I like to suggest activities to my adult students where they can enjoy the music, food and ambiance of the language they are trying to learn. It enhances their experience
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Take your time and be sure that you can communicate your goals to them clearly. It makes a lot of difference
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What their goals are. What they hope to accomplish by what time. Most importantly, have patience. Languages take time to learn correctly. And lastly, does the teacher's methods, pricing and flexibility match your needs.
