About

Lessons are generally 45 minutes long. Larger packages usually include at least one on-course lesson that lasts one and a half hours. For two people taking lessons together: take the individual price below and multiply by 1.5 to determine the total cost. The rate for playing lessons includes the cost of playing golf (no other fees are due).

Most people play golf for enjoyment; and they get more enjoyment when they develop consistency — the ability to hit the kind of shots they like (and shoot scores they like) more often. Therefore, my goal as an instructor is to help people enjoy golf more by helping them find consistency in their skills. The way to achieve consistency is to develop skills that are simple enough to be repeated. This means a fundamentally sound setup, fewer moving parts in the swing, fewer planes for the parts that do move, and hopefully fewer things cluttering up the mind. Playing golf well is not just about learning what to do — it is learning what not to do, because “less is more” in golf. Removing extra and unnecessary movements allows each golfer to develop a simpler, more consistent swing.

Frequently asked questions

I start by having new clients fill out an information form that includes basic info, but asks questions about their strengths and weaknesses; about their tendencies and ball-flights; and about where they want to go with their game. Then we try to lay out a bit of a game-plan for what parts of the game need the most attention. When they start hitting shots, I usually take several minutes to become familiar with their techniques before starting the process of instruction and learning.

I have been teaching golf for over 20 year. Over 4,000 clients ranging from complete beginners to touring professionals, and I have given some 23,000 lessons.

I started as a shop assistant / outside staff in 1995, but I was a student of the game and enjoyed trying to help myself and others get better. I started giving beginner lessons in 1996 and continued to grow my business until I went full-time with teaching in 2001.

I have worked with players of almost every walk of life. I've coached several people with severe disabilities, stellar athletes, many college players, a few touring professionals, thousands of "weekend warriors", and folks from 4 continents.

I also coach a women's college golf team. In only our third season as a new full-sized team we won our conference championship, and sent two players to the national championship. I was thrilled for our players!

I think some people teach because it's part of being a pro, or just to make some supplemental income. I would encourage students to find a teacher with a good reputation who also cares about what they do, who cares about the people they work with.

Are you the kind of player who enjoys practice and does it on a regular basis, or do you prefer to just play? Are you trying to score better, or simply hit certain shots (or clubs) better, because each answer will dictate a different approach to improvement. What are your goals?
