Harmonic Piano Studio, LLC
About
HPS offers both in-person and remote lessons. However, in order to avoid the problem during the holiday season with Omicron, the studio only gives out the remote lessons.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, HPS has offered remote lessons for the past 22 months. After switching all of the students online since March 2020, we have conducted over 2600 remote piano lessons to students between age 4 and 66, nationwide.
After giving out about 19-20 months remote lessons in the midst of the long Pandemic, the studio once resumed its in-person lessons to the students who thought they could take the risks, with Covid-19 policy and consent form. Between mid-September and end-October, 60% of the students decided to continue their remote lessons, and 40% students returned to the in-person lessons. Among those 40% in-person students, it was above 75% of the in-person were unvacinnated under age 12.
HPS is comfortable and confidence with its both formate: remote and in-person lessons. The quality and progress of our remote lessons is just as good and as efficient as the in-person lessons. This statement has been examained by over 2600 remote lessons as well as the in-person students between September and October 2021. Nobody quit to return to the remote lessons after the studio making the announcement, and new students are keep coming to join the studio.

This is a profession with the true knowledge and skills since the very begining.
What types of students have you worked with?
All levels: beginners, amateurs, and professionals, from age 4 to adults. Dr. Kao offers the highly-personalized piano lessons. It means, different goal by the students and parents will create different result because the way of teaching and training is different. If a student just want to enjoy playing piano, the student can take more time to do the homework. If a student wants to join and participate the compeition, then the student has to stay in a more dedicated condition to recieve more challenging materials.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Many piano teachers in this area do not have enough professional trainings. I mean, I would not hire a piano teacher without professional background and appropriate trainings. Many students in this area came to this studio without good and solid foundation, and it means we have to identity the weknesses, rebuild the missing parts, get to learn how to move on ones own without a teacher. All these take time. Literally there have been students coming to the studio mentioning they have played for 2-ish years, but due to the lack of proficiency, we still have to go from the very begining to make sure their manners and understandings are correct. Typically, how much time the student spent to build the bad habits in the wrong way, will be just about the same the student spent to get back to the correct route...
