ME

Michila E.

Kim Laguardia has become like a second mom to me. Growing up I did theatre here and there but never took it very seriously. My sophomore year of high school I auditioned for one of the plays that Laguardia was directing. I ended up getting a part, and from that point on I became invested in theatre. Although theatre is a fun way for me to express myself, Kim Laguardia is really the person the made it one of the most memorable moments in my life. She constantly encouraged me and pushed me to become a better actress. She always provided me with different experiences in theatre from acting to choreographing to assistant directing. I saw how much she believed in me and it made me believe in myself. She would go out of her way to help me learn a new monologue or prepare a new song. As a result, I became a very well rounded person both on the stage and off. The next best part about Laguardia is that she is the type of director that wants to get to know you as a person. She always is asking her students about how their day is going and she always tries to be there for them. I have never met someone so passionate and dedicated to their career as Kim Laguardia is. Without her I would not be the person I am today. Because of her I have become more confident and able to express who I am as a person. Managing a group of 60 plus students on stage is not an easy task and Laguardia does it with effort and ease. I give Kim Laguardia my highest recommendation. She is one of my role models and is someone that I will always look up to. It was an honor to be one of her students in her plays and musicals, and I will never forget the postitive impact that she made on my life.

Kim Laguardia is the best acting teacher I’ve ever had. I’ve had a few, but Kim is just different. She opens you up to acting in such incredible ways. I remember first sitting in theatre 1, we were learning about the different kinds of stages/auditoriums in theatre. Something that most people would think is the less interesting part of acting, but she made it so fun. I was dying to learn more. She made EVERY aspect of drama so fun and amazing. She’s very collaborative, very kind, and knows how to get the very best out of every performer. She sees things in you, things that you don’t see in yourself yet, and brings them out into your performance. Learning from Kim Laguardia is something that I truly think about every day. I always remember how much I loved sitting in her drama classes, drama club, performing in her plays and musicals. She will make you fall in love with acting even more, and make you so much better in the process. You do not want to miss out on a chance to learn from her. I promise.

Kim strikes an excellent balance between allowing her performers to reach their potential, while simultaneously keeping the show and her actors on track. Though I only worked with her once, the production was one of my fondest memories of high school drama.

Kim manages high school age children and elementary age kids simultaneously and brilliantly! She keeps the little ones engaged with fun games to develop their vocals and their actions on stage, and she is endlessly patient. For the older students, Kim has a knack for casting students and developing talent-especially in her expertise in tech theater and set design. The sets are both sturdy and appropriate for the productions. I have never seen a malfunction in one of her shows- she is a consummate professional and all her students love working with her.
