What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have designed an on-boarding process you will love! New students meet for 55 minutes with a highly-qualified Spanish tutor over Skype, free of charge. This is a great opportunity to share your goals, to ask questions, and to experience one-on-one Spanish tutoring! If you are completely happy with your consultation, your tutor will give you instructions for step 2!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Every member of our team is certified to teach Spanish as a foreign language. You can expect carefully planned lessons as well as effective use of teaching resources. Our one-on-one Skype Spanish lessons are highly controlled, you will have a perfect experience every single time you dial in. Spanish55 provides continuing education to the tutoring staff and organizes regular team-building activities, a happy team translates to a great experience for you! Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We have packages with discounted rates for our students. We like to keep things simple, the more lessons you can commit to the more you save. Materials and homework will be included once you purchase any package. 5-session package - $35 per session 10-session package - $33 per session 20-session package - $31 per session 50-session package - $30 per session

Abe & Al founded Spanish55 with one goal and one goal only: to help Americans speak Spanish (no more “nod and smile, nod and smile”). Millions upon millions of learners attempt to learn a language purchasing expensive "proven systems", nothing delivers on the promise. Something had to change.
What types of students have you worked with?
Travelers, business owners, executives, stay at home parents, consultants, plant managers, college professors. Too many to name, really.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We're proud to say that our job results in families reuniting, international business expanding, expats retiring in Mexico, CEO's giving company-wide announcements in Spanish, and so much more. I'll share one of our latest Google reviews from a student we met here on Thumbtack: "I'm having a really awesome time working on my Spanish with Coach Paula. I had gotten to the point with Duolingo (which is also great) where to get to the next level I needed actual conversations in Spanish with someone, preferably someone patient who knows how to teach. I get that with Spanish55. The rates are reasonable, it's super convenient, the instruction is tailored to my progress, and it's fun besides. What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they are experienced with a good track record of happy students but more importantly RESULTS. Work with a few different tutors before sticking to one, this will be a long, yet fruitful journey. Make sure your tutor has the proper training and experience. A tutor may be "kind, patient, and funny", this does not mean he will take you to the finish line. Hire a company you can trust. We've met too many students who get left hanging because the tutor found a new opportunity somewhere else!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
This is a tough one. Let's start by remembering that there are no shortcuts to success. Getting to the point where you can comprehend and produce language is not easy and it won't be fast, but you won't go at it alone. Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for. If you see the value in hiring a qualified tutor that will take you to the finish line, please understand there will be an important monetary and time investment. Stop for a minute and think to yourself, am I ready to make this investment? The determining factor in whether or not you reach your goal is CONSISTENCY. It is the difference between failure and success. You are giving thought to hiring a tutor and accountability partner, but at the end of the day only you will decide if you will be successful.
