About
Over 50 years teaching and performing worldwide. Stellar reviews. Go to leonardpitt.com. Most recently taught advanced mask at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco.
I love seeing people grow. I've always thought of myself as a gardener, my students are my plants. I teach because I learn. That's true. Every student presents a different set of issues to work through. I've got to figure out the combination to their success, In that I learn. That's why this work is never boring.

Leonard is very specific about his coaching - he gives clear direction to help improve your acting. While he doesnt pull his punches he is not cruel about it and rewards success with praise for work well done. Along with that he just a great guy with a wealth of knowledge and experience to share. I highly recommend Leonard.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Show me something. Then we go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
While my original theatre training began in Paris with master mime, Etienne Decroux, I've been talking on stage for decades and have made voice training part of my theatrical teaching for all those years. A lot of it has to do with awareness! Awareness creates choices. Realize it or not, you're making choices on stage all the time. You want to make the right choices and this requires experience and knowledge.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $50 for 40 minutes. We can a lot done in that time.
How did you get started teaching?
A year after I began studying in Paris my teacher asked me to become his assistant. That was 1964 and I've been teaching ever since. Amazing. It never gets boring. I teach because I learn. Each student brings something new.
What types of students have you worked with?
What types are there? Experienced, new to the art. That's about it and I've worked with them all.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Me performing onstage with my grandson.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Young students may not be very specific in what they want to learn. They want to learn acting. That's fine. More experienced students may come with a script and that's fine. We start with whatever you bring and wherever you are.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What's to think through?
We start from where you are at now. you want acting, voice work, work on physical expression?
We get to work and questions will come out of that.
