Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
A first dance lesson always consists of a one-on-one consultation. What made you decide that you wanted to dance? What dance styles are you interested in? What are some of your dance goals? I want to create the perfect dance experience for YOU. And then, of course, we DANCE!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to be a dancer and when I was 15, I began taking Ballroom Dance Classes at Arthur Murray. It wasn't long before I knew that I wanted to become a Dance Instructor and at age 17 I underwent their Teacher Training Program. And because I wasn't satisfied with just being a Social Dance Instructor I also began training at Dancing with the Star's Professional Dancer Karina Smirnoff's Dance Studio to become a Competitive Ballroom Dancer. It was there I also completed another Teacher Training Program to also become a Competitive Ballroom Dance Instructor. And the rest is history. I've been teaching for over 4 years and I have loved every minute of it.
What types of students have you worked with?
As a Ballroom Dance Instructor, I've had the pleasure of working with students of all ages and all backgrounds. I offer Private Lessons to both individuals and to couples.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Starting as a student, I know what I prefer to see in an instructor. I recommend anyone looking for a Dance Instructor to find one who wants to work with you on your dance goals and is able to adjust their teaching to your learning style instead of an instructor who Says it's my way or the highway. Most importantly, find an instructor you are comfortable with and also can have fun while learning from them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Some great questions I think every student looking for a Dance Instructor should ask are:
"What are some potential dancing goals I can set?"
"What can I expect from my lessons"
"What are some ways I can most get the bang from buck"
