The Really Loud Drum School
About
I offer private drum lessons: all styles, all ages, all levels. I have a wonderful studio, located at The Starving Musician in Santa Clara (3939 Saratoga Ave at Stevens Creek Blvd), with two cool retro Ludwig drumsets facing each other. I also play guitar, bass, and piano and have those instruments there so we can jam to any given groove. Addtionally, I have a great internet hook-up with recording studio speakers and video monitors on each side of the room, which enables us to play along to videos, etc. I only teach during the week (tues, wed, and thur afternoons) as i gig on the weekends. If you want to know more about me, please visit my recording studio website to hear me play, see instructional videos, etc. www.bonesandknives.com

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My goal of a first lesson for a beginner is to try and get them able to play a med tempo 8th note groove and a 16th note fill at the first lesson. In most cases, 20 minutes in, I'll be on guitar or piano jamming along with the student. I also show how to read Funky Primer style notation (which is actually standard notation without all the rests written in). I lightly touch on how to hold the sticks as well as how to fit ergonomically into the drumset.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Studied music at most of the local colleges, most notably, San Jose State on full scholarship. I also record over ten albums a year as a session drummer and do about 100 gigs a year. I have been teaching for decades and still love it as well as still love learning about drumming!
