Liam Lane Acting Coach
About
I have been acting and teaching for over 10 years and my career has taken me from London to New York City and Los Angeles. By focusing on the complete performer I work on voice, movement, text analysis and relaxation. I will help you to build confidence and give you a working method that you can continue to use outside of lessons. I will also provide resouces and advise for navigating the industry.
I am passionate about theater, acting and storytelling because it is the ultimate shared experience where we learn to lay ourselves bare in an attempt to truly connect to those around us. I get to be in a room and create an environment where people can safely explore, build confidence and expand their physical, vocal and imaginitve abilities. In a time when we are increasingly isolated from one another, my work is a constant reminder of how important it is to be on a learning journey together.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to assess the students current skill level first. I find out what they already know, what their goals are and when they want to achieve them. After that we can begin a course of sessions that will equip them with the skills needed. Focus can be placed with different weight on reparing the body and voice for performance, Buidling a character, Monologues and audition technique, and analyzing text. Depending on the students goals we can also explore the necessary steps to becoming a professional actor.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I trained at Bretton Hall Drama School in the UK and specialized in Classical acting and phyiscal theater. After graduating I spent 7 years in London working in theater and commericlas. I also worked with students of all ages and abilities as ambassador and teaching artist for the Unicorn Theater in London which is the flaghsip theater for young people in the UK. I trained further in movement and Shakespeare with Kathryn Hunter of the Royal Shakespeare Company who appeared in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Since moving to the States I have captained and cast one of New York's longest running shows, Fuerzbruta. And in the past year I have worked for the LA Opera alongside Placido Domingo and most recently acted for the Metroploitan Opera in New York. My work has taken me around the world to destinations such as London, New York, Los Angeles, Istanbul, Milan, Germany, Ireland, Romania and Poland.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $80 dollars for one hour of coaching which includes preperation of materials outside of our lessons.
How did you get started teaching?
I first started teaching when I was working as an actor for the Unicorn theater in London and the education department asked me to assist with their weekly youth theater workshops. This quickly turned into opportunities with other institutions such as Theater Center and the Young Shakepspeare Company. I quickly ended up teaching in schools across the country. When I moved to New York i worked one on one with adults combining actor training with mindfulness meditation and aqurng executive fuction skills.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with entire classes from 1st grade to high school graduates, Young adults pursuing careers in the arts, individulas with autism and learning difficulties, youth theater groups, summer camps and fellow professional artists.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was recently working with a young autistic girl on improvisaional games designed to give her more social confidence and practice when interacting in the real world. Having spent an hour together and assuming she was naturally very out going, her mother came into the room for the last 15 minutes of session so that we could share some of the work. After the class, the mother explained to me as we were leaving that she had never seen her daughter being so engaged and expressive. This came as a total surprise to me but was incredibly rewarding to know how quickly the work can have a positive effect.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they are the right teacher to help you develop in the areas that you want to focus on and make sure you understand what they are asking you to commit to during and outisde of scheduled sessions.
