About

I am an internationally touring drummer and drum teacher versed in many styles of music, and I am always eager to learn and share my knowledge. My students have always grown immensely in their abilities from studying with me. My main priority, though, is keeping this instrument fun and full of possibility for every student!

What can I say about Michael but he is a great drum teacher. My kid Melanie signed up with Michael a year ago without knowing anything about music. After 2 months kid was gifted. Im a quitar player of 30 plus years and with what happened to my kid, I signed up 2 months later.
I dont want to give away his secrets to our success, but for the first time ever I can read music. I love it. I would like all of you to try some lessons from Michael and I look forward to playing all related and current drum sets and styles. Get him before he is famous and we lose him to a new hit band.

    Frequently asked questions

I will always ask about their background--how long have they been playing drums? What interests them about the instrument? What are their goals? What types of music do they listen to? If they have never played drums before, I will usually start with a basic counting lesson. Then we will start with some basic beats, or some basic fills. Then we will probably start on a song!

I have studied with teachers, through books, and through various videos since the very beginning. I also have a minor in music from San Francisco State University, and I have played professionally since 2016.

I am currently offering a SPECIAL RATE of $35/hour for online lessons!
I first started teaching privately to friends, then professionally through an organization in the Bay Area. My very first professional student is now a working drummer! I have since continued my private professional practice, and I have worked for music stores along the way.
I have taught students of every age group from 6-65, and of many skill levels from total beginners to advanced professionals.
I have loved my recent touring experiences with Jhariah and Catbamboo, and I have also loved my many recording experiences and countless random gigs.
Please, please, please hire a teacher with a passion for teaching AND some professional experience. A balanced and informed perspective on this instrument is essential for anyone, even if they are only interested in this instrument as a hobby. Preferably, the teacher can also read and teach reading sheet music.
What are my goals with this instrument? Do I want to be a professional drummer, or am I more interested in playing drums as a hobby? What styles of music am I interested in? Do I want to learn to play parts note-for-note, or do I want to focus more on being expressive and artistic?
