    Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student, it is imperative that the student be evaluated for class and level readiness.  Although a student with no dance training may not need an evaluation to begin instruction in a beginning class, students that have had prior dance training are evaluated to make sure that placement in class(es) will be the best fit for ultimate learning experience.

The cost of Evaluation and Trial classes are $20.00 per class which may be credited toward tuition if deciding to register.  Students under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to sign a liability waiver necessary for the student to be on the dance floor.  All students attending class, whether for trial or evaluation must be dressed according to the North County DanceArts' dress code.

Louis McKay, Co-Owner and President of North County DanceArts, Inc. was on the stage from the time he was a small boy beginning with such organizations as the San Diego Opera Company, The Bright Side, and Starlight Theaters. That training took him to Los Angeles where he was privileged to train and dance with such greats as Pat Ricco, Gower Champion, Ron Lewis, Michael Peters, Toni Steven, Bob Sidney, Claude Thompson, Joe Tremaine, Jamie Rogers, Toni Charmoli, Jerry Grimes, and Alex Plachet. This also allowed him to hone his acting skills with LA’s Sal Dano.

Louis held the position of lead singer and dancer as well as the choreographer for The Debbie Reynolds Show for seven years. During that time, Louis appeared with Harv Presnell, Gavin McCloud and Debbie Reynolds in the Broadway production of Annie Get Your Gun.

Louis also performed as lead dancer and singer for two years at the People’s Choice Awards. He also performed as lead dancer on the Sandy Duncan 1976 Valentine’s Special, the Liberace 1977 Special, and the Bob Hope 1978 Special. Louis’ television appearances also featured him as special guest on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show, The John Davidson Show, The Mike Douglas Show, The Sonny and Cher Show and The Barbara Mandrel Show.

Louis has performed and taught master dance and musical theater classes in 42 of our 50 states, as well as Europe and South Africa. In 1984, Louis opened Louis McKay’s Dance Studio in La Costa, California, later to become North County DanceArts Inc.
