Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Telephone conversation with parent regarding the child and their environment. It is important to have the correct instruments and sticks/mallets. I will help to set this up at their home if necessary. Parent oversite and assistance are also important.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BMus degree and have been teaching drumkit and percussion for 40 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always taught students privately or and music schools throughtout my career for extra income and also to share my joy and passion for music to the next generation.
What types of students have you worked with?
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher has qualifications and experience, as well as good equipment/instruments to teach on. You also would want to be taught to read music and not only play by ear.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If you are interesting in learning a musical instrument, you will have to be committed. Just as if it was a sport or a foreign language. It takes time and effort, a little bit everyday.
