Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We begin with a light discussion on what the student is looking to accomplish with the training and any areas they may want to work on. The lessons increase in emotional intensity beginning with improv and a basic understanding of Stanislavki's Method and working up to more modern approaches like Meisner and emotional recall. Each class is built and developed around the individual student so lessons vary. If this sounds appealing then please do not hesitate to reach out and we'll go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors of Science in Acting and Theatre Production, a certificate for Improv and Sketch Comedy from Second City, as well I am certified in unarmed combat and have trained with both sword and staff. I won a national scholarship for Best Physical Performance from the Kennedy Center in Washington DC which gave me the opportunity to work in upstate New York. That training plus my training in the Alexander technique have not only greatly developed my characters and spatial awareness but also they both increased an awawreness in my body and aligned my posture. As well, I have been a singer and student of the human voice for over 10 years. I trained in singing and voice technique with Josh Groban's former voice coach, Randy Buescher from Chicago, IL.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My current price is $20/half hour and $30/hr.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching acting and improvisation to kids ages 5-13 back in 2010 in St. Charles, IL. the kids went on the work in some local commercials and plays. It is a memory I hold dearly.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students of all ages and experience. I have work with kids more than adults but generally an understanding of the craft of acting transcends age and experience and becomes a deep understanding of what makes each of us individuals tick.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, a producer I worked with many years ago asked me to be in his film. Of course, I was excited but when I read the script I realized it had been written FOR ME! The character was a perfect fit and I was stunned. He said he had no one else in mind for the character. This show will be broadcast on Netflix and my character is the lead!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Many people talk the talk but if you aren't being helped one-on-one or your teacher thinks improv excercises are all it takes to grow as an actor, they've got another thing coming. You should be up, on your feet, each class, for AT LEAST 15 minutes.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The craft and career of acting is no cake walk. You must have a deep passion for the craft and a burning desire to grow into a powerful artist. Many people think acting is a fast track toward money and ease. That could not be any farther from the truth. If acting is more important than physical comforts then you know you're ready to take on an acting career.
