I've been a working professional Actor since 1998, and have been teaching acting masterclasses since 2003. I grew up in Baltimore, MD, performing at the Arena Players, Inc; the oldest continuously operating Afircan-American community theatre in the US. I have done "The Lion King", and was in the original Broadway casts of "Hairspray" and "Mary Poppins". Most recently, I was seen on Showtime's "The Affair", Disney+'s "Encore!", and Lifetime Movie Network's "I'll Be Watching".

Most enjoyable in the work, for me, is the opportunity to collaborate with other Artists on their artistic journey. I LOVE storytelling, and coming up with exciting choices and bold ideas for the character. I really enjoy bringing people to the awareness of all that they have to offer through their work.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I make sure to identify exactly what kind of work the Artist is desiring to focus on, so I can be sure that what I offer is in alignment with what they need. And then we get to work!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a professional, Union actor since 1998. I trained in musical theatre my entire childhood at the Arena Players, Incorporated; the oldest, continuously operating African-American community theatre in the US. I received my high school diploma from the George Washington Carver Center for the Arts and Technology, where I trained in acting, singing, and dancing. I've trained independently as an actor with Johnnie Hobbs, Jr., Anthony Abeson, and Steve Braun.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard pricing system, which I really believe is quite considerate for other Artists, is $1/min. I think paying for your time is worth it, and $1 seems fair to me.
How did you get started teaching?
I've been doing Masterclasses since 2003, and basically started then because someone invited me to share my knowledge with younger Artists at the time. I became a Teaching Artist officially in 2018, when I was living in Las Vegas, working on a new Marilyn Monroe musical. I was hired by The Smith Center's education department for Camp Broadway, and then later for the Disney Musicals in Schools program. I have been teaching ongoing at the BGB Studio in Los Angeles since 2019.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with all levels of students; youth to adult, professional and amateur.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently had an opportunity to see some friends in a production of Pearl Cleage's "Blues for an Alabama Sky" at the Mark Taper Forum here in LA. I attended the show on 'Black Night Out'; which the theatre sponsors an evening for Black-identifying individuals to commune, and watch the show together. So much JOY taking in that very complex piece with an audience that shares my cultural experience. I really LOVED it!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure you're clear about what you need, and the type of work you're interested in doing with the teacher. Make sure the person you're hiring to work with you is clear about the kind of services they offer, the pricing for their service, and has a way of communicating that resonates with you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are my goals, long and short-term, when it comes to training, and my career?
Am I ready to commit to the work it takes to be emotionally available and vulnerable enough to lend my voice to other people's stories?
