About

I teach African drums like Djembe and Dun Dun's - I have been teaching for 40 years - I was a teacher for Motherland Music as well as Remo. I can teach over skpe or zoom if you like. I have a you tube link where you can see me improvising a rhythm with a fellow drummer. https://youtu.be/rrEqNTyMF_A

I love teaching and seeing my students actually become independent. Many of my students have become famous drummers which keeps the legacy going.

    Dear Ayo, August 11, 2020
In sacred circles from from the Passover Village in Joshua Tree to men’s groups since 1991 I have been blessed to contribute the sound of the mother spirit. THANKS TO YOU I have such a love for the drum and all the lessons it’s taught me. I’ve learned that if my hands hurt, I’m not doing it right! I’ve learned to use the drum to ground the energy as well as elevate the mood.
I learned that the sound and vibration of the mother comes through the drum and it is irresistible. You cannot close your ears to the drum because it is speaking to your whole body and even your whole body cannot stop it.
I learned that generosity and kindness are hallmarks of the masters and I have been honored and blessed to have learned these and more from you, my friend, my teacher, my Brother.
I wish you much peace and continued blessings on the occasion of your birthday!
    I LOVE YOU!

I have been a student of Baba for 24 years. In addition to having been able to embrace the techniques of drumming, I have been led to understand learning rhythm as a way of life.
I am greatly honored to hold Baba as a teacher, friend and brother.

I loved my entire experience working with West African Cultural Foundation. Baba Ayo is one of the kindest humans you will ever meet; a respected and beloved elder, and a cultural treasure. He has vast experience and knowledge, and he happens to be a talented teacher as well. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend!

I have been taking lessons from Ayo for years. Sharing a lesson with Ayo is magical. Its not like regular drum classes because you learn spiritual lessons from Africa while learning to play. Also totally fun and funky.
