About

Darren R. Wong is a member of The Kinjaz from NBC's World of Dance and has been teaching, performing and choreographing in the Hip Hop community for 19 years.

He has choreographed for the NBA’s Sacramento Kings Dance team, artists like Nicki Minaj, and for nationally ranked college and high school dance teams.

Darren's goal is to share what dance has given him in his life by providing in person or online dance courses for up and coming dancers who may be intimidated or self-conscious to start dancing or do not have access to experienced teachers or a dance studio with classes that interest them around them.

His courses allow both new and experienced dancers from all over the world to have access to an experienced teacher who understands the ins and outs of how to break down movements to its simplest form, so a student can confidently learn a movement with correct technique, execute them to music and piece them together to create their own combinations whenever and wherever without having to step foot into a studio.

He aspires not only to help those in his local dance community, but also dance communities worldwide who may not have direct access to the techniques and knowledge that was shared with him.

    Frequently asked questions

Establish a "syllabus" based on my students goals and abilities, train my students in an organized fashion to establish core fundamentals before moving onto the more "flashy" movements my students want to learn from the get-go, motivate my students to keep practicing and not lose faith in themselves (this is a difficult dance style to learn, so students often become unmotivated or frustrated that they are not getting a lesson at first), create fun activities and drills to help my students learn fundamental lessons while enjoying themselves.

I am heavily involved in the hip-hop industry performing and teaching with renowned dance organizations like the Kinjaz from NBC's World of Dance Season 1, Culture Shock LA and Kaba Modern. I constantly see the newest and updated styles and movements of dance in this industry.

I love teaching and I always wished there was a way to learn what I have learned in 16 years of training in an organized fashion. Seeing my students overcome their fears and doubts about dance is what keeps me motivated and happy to continue teaching.

All Levels of dance experience ages 13 and up

I love seeing the results I see from the beginning of a quarter at the University of California, Irvine, compared to the end of the quarter. It is truly inspiring to see students go from complete novices (students without rhythm) to students who can groove and move and bust out some awesome combinations in a circle.

Even if you don't hire me to be your personal dance teacher, make sure that you are working with an experienced teacher who has been involved with the industry and has at least 3 years of teaching experience. Also, ask to make sure they have a lesson plan that is organized and creates a fundamental base for the student and they have a passion for both the art of the dance and teaching it.

What is my ultimate long term goal from taking these lessons?

How much teaching experience does the person have?

What has stopped me before from learning how to dance?
